The man speaks truth. You aren’t going to be raging nightly in the fleet, but you don’t want to be that one guy that doesn’t like to hang either.Also - Nobody gives a fuck about your dinner parties and BBQs. The ready room won’t care about them in the fleet either.
Like it or not, you’re at least partially evaluated on how you integrate socially into the ready room.
As one of my first skippers put it: you’re evaluated on three things in the average fleet squadron; how you are in the jet, how you do at your ground job, and how you are socially. You should try to be great at all three, but you can only afford to suck at one.
If you’re “that guy,” then you’ll need to kill it in the plane/helo and be great at your ground job to overcome your social weakness.
