yeah i completely understand what everyone's saying. i guess he will have to make a decision on what to do. do you know how indepth they look into your medical history or is it just basically done on an honor system.

Well, it all depends on what kind of MOS you get into. I know for the most part it is done on the honor system (SO HONOR IT :)) Flight positions, special forces, etc... will more than likely do a pretty detailed record review. I wouldn't chance it..plus, that wouldn't be very honorable, thus totally smashing everything the Corps stands for....naughty naughty.

Hahaha. yea i understand. its his doing, i cant change his mind i just can give him the facts but if he really wants to im not gonna stop him. if he works hard enough to get it i wont stop him. and the whole honor system i know its a lie but how little of a lie it is and it just shows how much he wants to get in. thats such a handicap and i believe if he gets in he deserves it.

you guys make it seem as if he is lying about murdering someone. he is lying about something that he was born with that makes him not as good physically as us. but if he can pass all the test he has to to get in then he obviously has what it takes to get in. if he can do the same thing that the rest of us do with less than what the rest of us have then why not let him in. That in my mind deserves more respect than anything. he just wants to do what the rest of us have an easier time doing. yeah i know we dont lie cheat or steal thats a load of bull**** if i might say so. im not saying that the motto is bs but the fact that people can sit there and say that. theres not a person out there that hasnt lied cheated or stole so dont feed me that and if that is the worst lie he feeds them then he will have done better than probably 95% of us on here.

I see both sides of this...My old OSO actually switched lines in in-processing at OCS because he was going to get sent home for some stupid physical reason...isn't that lying??? However, he did graduate second in his class once he was there. He's an easy 300 PFT'er now...doesn't sound like he's impaired too much.

Now as far as the guy you're talking about is concerned...he can't take his pills while at OCS, and if he even shows up with them the gig is up...My question would be: why doesn't he back off the pills why he is training now and see if his asthma was a childhood thing or if it still affects him. If it comes back on him now then there's no way he can go...that disability could ultimately cost the lives of Marines if it attacks him during the wrong situation...say in the middle of a battle where 12-30 other Marines are depending on his leadership.

So my point is he has to determine whether or not he's still an asthmatic and whether or not his hiding any past experiences would be dishonorable. Everyone has lied at some point, but not everyone's lie can cost people there lives.

Not in my Corps! This guy is a one of a kind. Lying, cheating and stealing are OK? Everybody does it?

He does not even know the difference between an Honor Code and a motto.

Not on my wing!

Yeah... I'm gonna back up what Tanya says on this one. If you view honor as bull****, then to hell with you ever becoming an officer in the Marine Corps or any other branch for that matter. When you lie, you sacrifice your integrity, and you no longer have the moral authority to stand in front of Marines and lead them, especially in situations where your orders might end up involving the difference between those Marines living or dying. So, if you think integrity is "bull****" then do yourself and the Corps a favor and stay far far away.

Tnwhiskey thats exactly what he has planned he is going through all the processes right now and training still taking his medicine and he said after christmas he is going off the crap and if he cant do it he knows hes done. he knows he cant take medicine there and hide that so he is doing exactly what you said. and to tanya and jdfairman im not saying that lying cheating and stealing are ok that never was posted. and i didnt mean the whole thing is bull****. i mean we have the same thing at a&m, aggies dont lie cheat or steal. but there isnt one of us out there that hasnt done one of those. im just saying look at the situation he is not lying about drug abuse, felonies, or anything like that he is lying about asthma. even if he had a better astb score and pft he wouldnt get in because of that. hes just trying to get a chance to do something he has wanted to do forever. if he fails he fails, if he gets caught he gets caught. and the whole thing about him costing other people there lives, no thats dumb if he makes it through all the crap he has to to be an officer, then he would be the first one i would want on my team. to make it through and overcome something that is made out to be so detrimental to a person by the marines, that just seems to deserve more respect than anyone else.

tanya i would be the best guy in your wing.

People die from asthma attacks even while medicated.

I like TNWhiskey's suggestion but there is no way that this guy's personal training could compare to the rigors of OCS. After a week of <5 hours of sleep/night the immune system breaks down.....

Why can't this guy become a fireman, paramedic, or cop? All are honorable professions.

I say that if this guy can complete in an Ironman Triathlon or run a sub-3hour marathon without the medication then maybe he has a chance but if this is the case, does he really have asthma?

Yeah seriously, you're making it sound like his asthma is entirely early childhood...I've seen plenty of people who had childhood asthma outgrow it and never use their inhalers after about 14 or so. He might want to look into that more.

And I agree with you to some extent but let me put it this way...if he can fight his way through the system, apply for a waiver for asthma and get it, then he's got to be the most cantankerous persistent SOB alive, so yeah I want him on my team. If he fights his way through the system, more power to him.
