yeah i understand the whole asthma attack thing. if he has one then see ya later, hope you believe in God. but what i dont understand is, what if its a real minor thing. say he hasnt had an attack in forever and he most likely wont. theres no way around that even if its really minor, right? maybe we can get a little affirmative action for the asthmatics.

If its a minor thing with no attacks is it still asthma?

Heck, I don't even know what asthma is anymore.

How about this: if he doesn't take the medication for a week then runs a 290PFT then he does not have asthma. If he doesn't take the medication and runs a 3 hour marathon then he's good to go. If he doesn't take the medication and does a triathlon and finishes in the top 50% he's okay. Is that fair?

I just don't want this guy dying on me at TBS. That could easily ruin my afternoon and put a damper on the evolution.

Kid brother had asthma as a kid. Used the steroid inhaler until he was about 13 or 14. Then he just threw it away, did not need it. Ran track, football and baseball in HS.

In application to AF Academy he checked of as positive the asthma item and submitted a detailed summary of history stating he had not had an "incident" since he was 13, or over 5 years. They said " ... well we do not know, we see and hear nothing, you may have had asthma and you may not have had asthma but we see nothing now".

He made it and is a AF navigator.

If he gives up, he will never know. That is the best reason not to give up.

Yeah, like I said before, go see a doctor. Btw, from what wakani says, it is probably helpful for him that he's been so involved in physical activities as you say...since it indicates that he can perform rigorous physical activities without dying.

well he went in and talked to them and told them he had asthma. they said ok and told him there is a "fifty % chance" it will get waived. but in reality like a 20% chance. but when asked if he shouldve not just said anything about it, he was told that on almost 90% of medical history reports people lie about something. not just asthma, but little stuff here and there.

better off telling them..They more than likely would have found out. Plus, the guilt is lifted :)

Hey Nikki. Hows the transition from the Air Force going? I've met a few Air Force students here at API, and you've gotta give credit where its due. I've never met a sharper bunch of guys. They always have the highest composite average in academics. Some of them even voluntarily did the water survival events with us (which they didn't have to do). I have noticed that most Air Force guys are academy dudes. I'm guessing you have to be freakin smarter than Doogie Howser to get into the Air Force Academy.

Oh yes, the Air Force Academy is something else. To become an Air Force aviator, it is almost required that you graduate from the Academy. My GPA was high enough to get in after highschool, but I wasn't active enough in school functions and didn't volunteer enough. Also, I don't really care to fly for the Air Force. My OSO told me that I cannot actually send in my package until after I finish my degree being that I am already active duty Air Force. So I can't even apply for another year. I am just studying and trying to get my GPA a little higher. How are things going for you? Can't wait to be in your shoes.

A friend of mine who I met through a summer job, did the AFROTC program out of the University of Portland and was lucky enough to get accepted into the flight program (he's now in flight school in Mississippi)...You're definitely right about tough though. He said one other cadet in the program made flight school...At the same time he had to contract for 12 years, because they paid for his education...wasn't a big deal to him, because he plans to be a lifer.

Through my brief experience being enlisted in the AF, I have determined that I don't want to be a lifer in this branch. Some seem to love it, but I don't really care for the sissy-ness..lol. They are so uptight and picky about some stuff, but the items that really matter get flushed down the toilet. Hmmmm, just ready for a drastic change :)~

Lol, Nikki, that is what my buddy likes about it...He says, "its a friggin country club," especially for flyers.
