This may just be the history dork in me, but I’m stupid excited about the upcoming “Midway” remake, starring Woody as Chester Nimitz. Also: Francis from “Deadpool,” Private Drake as Ray Spruance, Dennis Quaid, and Aaron Eckhardt.

Except that John Waldron was part Lakota and looked it. Behind his back he was called “the Chief” or “the Indian,” which Aaron Eckhard definitely isn’t, and these days...
I do want to know who’s going to pay Stanhope Ring, the Hornet’s CAG at Midway. Arguably the stereotypical “peacetime water walker, couldn’t hack it in wartime” officer. Great career guy before 1941, fucked it up every way possible once the shooting started.

Nice. Tailhook aviation's finest hour. And arguably the most purely distilled example of the ethos of Naval Aviation as a community: when everything is going to shit, fall back on your training, make some shit up that makes sense, keep fighting, and just fucking win.
