Can we dispense with this term 'DEI'? We've all been subjected to mandatory training that is fucking stupid. <Oh, I can't tell the new female she has nice tits...or, I can't tell racial jokes in the RR (although it happens naturally amongst friends/peers)?> I think everyone knows that for the most part.
The term is now being used as a racist/misogynistic cudgel by hyper-partisans IMO. I guess we should look for more 'meritocracy' of cabinet appointees.
This was my issue with it from the beginning. Itās used as a cudgel by both sides to the point that most people donāt know what it means anymore.
My contention is that we had perfectly good words for being a decent human being before; we didnāt have to invent new ones for Trump to exploit in his vendetta against good manners.
As far as cabinet merit goes, loyalty to Trump is the only metric that matters.
Part of the whole game here. Anyone who's not a straight white Christian male is a DEI hire until proven otherwise.
It allows white men who are otherwise complete failures to feel better about themselves.

Reminds me of the time I was on a RJ jumpseat and the 50 year cap gave me shit for working for a āwokeā company that wouldnāt hire him with his 12,000 hours of awesomeness because he wasnāt black, gay, or female. I asked him if he had a collage degree and he said no, he didnāt have time for that shit. At the time a college degree was one of the minimum requirements to get an interview.
Reminds me of every guy (itās always another guy) who, upon learning that I am a test pilot / Naval Aviator, says something like āOh yeah, I could have done thatā¦ā

New rule: If you werenāt specifically rejected because of your race, sex, or whatever you ate for breakfast this morning, it aināt a wokeness/DEI problem.
If you never tried at all, then just STFU.
There was nothing inherently wrong about DEI until people started using it as a racist dog whistle. I am sure there are plenty of examples of companies or programs that did not fairly or effectively execute their policies, but equating its support with the people who want it wiped off the face of the earth is a little extreme. For example, I don't think there is anyone on this site that would admit lack of diversity is a big problem in Naval Aviation. With that said, no one who supports diversity effort in bringing more women and POC to the cockpit actually thinks the Naval Aviation enterprise would dismiss of merit or ability (obviously) altogether in order to achieve said goals. But back to your point, the term is cursed and ruined now, but as leaders we need to continue to value diversity, equity, and inclusion at all levels. Its not an easy problem, but that doesn't mean it should be abandoned.
Now if they said, "because, timing.", you'd know they were legit...

Our last class included a helicopter pilot with a law degree, and some foreign services send people without bachelors' degrees... but yeah, the Navy and Marines are pretty STEM-biased for TPS applicants.
