They get fucking paid.

Actually, I'm not paid to produce information for a FOIA request, but I still have to do it. My job assignement doesn't say anything about going through years of old records, to include the records of my predecessors to find informaion that someone asked for it.

In your case, you have a hobby of watching videos of carrier aircraft (or so I have been able to detemine from your previous posts) and now you feel that individuals who will have to go out of thier way to search computers and old files in addition to actually doing thier jobs "get fucking paid" to seach for you.

Why don't you finance your hobby yourself rather than asking the U.S. Taxpayers (which, may I note, you do not seem to be one) to finance your hobby?

Among other things, I've worked on bullshit FOIA requests as a staff officer. :) Regardless of whether people are geting paid to do them or not, there's an opportunity cost involved that detracts from more important work. I'm just highlighting that there's not some dude whose sole job it is to process these things. That person has to take time away from their other duties to play FOIA bureaucrat for however long it takes to complete the request. Some of them are completely worthy and justified; most of them are a waste of time.

I'm not saying you shouldn't make FOIA requests - just do so with a full understanding of what is involved to get you the next notch in your video archive belt.

@Joe Kaposi. I'm one of those people who you've asked for a video outside of this site, and trust me, I didn't get paid to run it down, or type the replies to your multiple emails. I did it to be polite, even if you didn't understand why I was unable to release footage of a squadron mishap. You're not helping your case here, especially if you're looking for our help in the future.

I joined this forum (my first and i think last one) because a USN vet of Facebook thought it might be a good idea for me to try it out. Well i've joined and stepped on a few toes which i did'nt mean to do, and obviously made a few...well not enemies, but you know what i mean. I don't really know which squadron your at, but i appreciate any reply etc that i have received back from you and whenever possible i do try not to repeat with enquiries, but sometimes it happens, maybe you've copped a few from me so apologies for that.
Over the years as my collection has grown, i've been asked by quite a few aircrew guys if i happen to have footage relating to their own mishap. I don't pass this stuff around easily for obvious reasons, but i have passed on footage to a few very appreciative guys. Only recently, i was able to re-connect an F-14 pilot with his RIO who lost contact with each other shortly after their 1983 firey bolter. Not trying to justify myself, just wanting you to know that its not all about me, its a two way street on lots of occasion.

Joe,
Please take some time to become familiar with the Standard Operating Procedures of AirWarriors.

Joe,

Joe, hopefully helpful hints: Posting identical question/requests on a variety of your resurrected LONG DEAD threads and expecting timely answers/media sharing........ is like asking questions/making requests of the residents of many local cemetaries, and becoming testy when you don't receive any answers.

Many of the members you cited with info requests, hadn't even logged in to AW in 3-4+ years, which is why you were reminded of this fact. A bit of info on member profiles, is a record of recent activity, and a date last checked into the site. As a new member, when citing a previous post, check the profile to get some idea of who you are querying or citing. Member profiles can be quite helpful (when they have been filled out).

"Shotgunning" of similar posts/requests on many different forums & threads, is frowned upon on AW, just sayin'.

Just know that with every FOIA request, you're creating dozens of hours of extra work for people in the DoD so you can enjoy your little hobby.
Um…I DO think that some folks' billet descriptions are all about answering FOIA requests. Here's one gent who I worked with VERY CLOSELY on two FOIA requests…one of which I was the Mishap RIO, the other of which I was the Senior member of the AMB…I told him I didn't mean to be a burden, and he basically said "Hey, it's what I do…"

For every little old lady in white tennis shoes (who make our Navy go 'round, BTW) that respond to FOIA requests, there's also a lot of people who respond to requests whose job has nothing to do with data collection. There's plenty of examples of Active Duty members also responding to FOIA and Congressional requests, despite it being in their job description. Obviously, at the end of the day, we serve the public, but some perspective needs to be maintained. For example (in your own backyard, R1):

Civilian complains about how "cracks" are forming in her house because <insert platform> are over-flying her home "every day" (not likely). Complaint continues that in this "fiscally constrained" environment, the Navy doesn't "need" to be flying over this person's house. Why? WHY!

Meanwhile, every squadron in the region has to answer where their aircraft were on a certain day of a certain month of a certain year. Again, time spent on the problem.

Not the same thing as Joe is saying, but the overlying issue still stands...not everyone who is doing data recall is doing it because "it's their fucking job!"

This is what I call a normal Tuesday....
