Isn't that what chokers are for? I know they still look a bit different, but it'd be much better than wearing short sleeves while everyone else has a jacket on. I realize that many in the Navy consider Summer Whites a "dress" uniform, but it's not according to the uniform regs.
It may be the 'equivalent' of Service Dress Blues in the regs, but not in reality. And no, it would not look better than short sleeves, it would look out of place.

If chokers would be out of place, this goes back to the question posed on page 1 of this thread: why not just wear the SDBs in this situation?

Ditto, the other services are wearing dark colored suits, why not wear our dark colored suit?
Go to DC in July/August, put on your blues and walk around all day. Oh, and ride the Metro. Let us know how things work out.

And I imagine they might get rid of the summer whites (the shirts, not chokers) if they restart the Service Dress Khakis. No use for them anymore.

SDBs, Chokers, SDK, Summer White (I also counted Winter Blue, but I'm not sure if they count as "dress" the way that Summer Whites do). They may get rid of summer white to compensate, but I still own the darn thing. And with the way uniforms keep changing, who knows if they're gonna come back in the future.

Aviators don't wear winter blues, at least those that are self respecting. I never even bought it. And I have not seen that uniform worn by anyone in 6 or 7 years.
If we get Service Dress Khakis, I bet they do away with Summer Whites and Winter Blues. Much like the new enlisted uniforms are superseding witner blues and summer whites for E's. So in reality, we will probably have one less uniform to carry around, 'officially'.
And just as I thought, the Service Dress Khakis are only being wear tested right now. The 'test' runs until the end of August. I imagine we might see a uniform message come out about a year or so from now with any changes.

When was the last time an officer uniform changed? From what I know, the last major change was getting rid of SDK's in the first place. That was 1972. We ain't the USAF, who changes their uniforms with every Chief of Staff.
Yes. Try wearing a wool suit in summer, hat included, and see how you feel. I have, and will again on Monday, and it ain't fun.

I've never seen an officer wear winter blues, either, but we were forced to buy them at OCS and students wear them on liberty during the winter.
My bad on the "frequent" changes -- I suppose they're talked about on here much more than they actually happen.
Aren't khakis wool as well? As I mentioned earlier, Summer Whites feel a lot cooler than Service Khakis in the summer.
Yes, along with winter blues. Both are being replaced by the black and tan's, bleah.
There are a variety of fabrics available depending on what brand you get, but they are usually some poly-wool mix. But it is a much lighter weight than SDB's, and the SDK's would be a lighter weight than SDB's I presume.
As for feeling cooler, I don't think there is much difference between the two.
The crackerjacks are a little goofy, granted, but isn't there a like a gadgillion years of nautical tradition behind them? It seems sad to abandon them for uniforms that look as if they were stolen from the Marines, especially since the Navy is bring back a "newer" old tradition with the dress khakis.
And while I'm at it--the dark garrision cover with the working blues makes sailors look like the Gestapo.

The crackerjacks are sticking around, as is the white version, though they are wear testing a 'throwback' version along with the Service Dress Khakis.
