CMV-22B Osprey Rollout

There were some dudes who were sent to IOC and did a pump as a platoon commander in a reserve battalion during that T-34 redstripe. But that was also 2009, and we were conducting major combat ops.

Those guys were hard chargers, but were all glad to be in aviation.
I guess that was during the AFG surge...

God bless those dudes, but it must have been some whiplash for them to be redirected to IOC with a follow on tour to a BFE reserve infantry unit as an 0-1 platoon commander.

Edit: Or was that without going to IOC?

It's been a big let down to go from multi-engine all the way back to intermediate rotors. I don't even want to say how some pathetic dudes got Hercs. Ya, so much for "nothing given". I better go fix the drywall.

Bro. You are guaranteed nothing in this business. Be thankful the Marine Corps is keeping you on a path to gold wings at all. This isn’t the first nor the last red stripe to come along; re-designation has been on the table before.

If you wanted to fly something specific, you should have rushed an Air Force Reserve or Air National Guard squadron.

Regardless of what you think of your fellow SNAs, calling some of them “Pathetic” is never a good look, especially for someone who has yet to even get their own wings. Also, if you look at pipeline changing from Multi to Rotary as “all the way back”, that sentiment will not sit well in your future community.

Grow where you are planted. Inadvertent pipeline changes and raw deals are an unfortunate reality of military service. This won’t be the first or last time you get some degree of curveball thrown at you.

Keep drinking, I'll forgive you for one night of self pity.

But tomorrow morning you're still a Marine, you're still living the dream as an SNA, a dream that a thousand people would gladly trade places with you for. You're still going to have to work your ass off to earn your keep, to earn those Wings of Gold and become a member of the best club in the fucking world.

So stop bitching. Grow where the fuck You're planted, and realize that you'll love what you fly in the fleet. There are people in your shoes who were dropped from the program completely during the -46 to Osprey transition. You're still on the team, fucking act like you respect that and deserve it.

Oh, they went to IOC. And yeah, it was during the big surge. I know one dude who checked into MATSG and went to IOC TAD. Why? He was single. Lucky him.

Btw. This kind of falls in line with what is happening to @Hard Clutch . Would Hardy rather go to IOC and be a platoon commander in Afghanistan circa 2009/2010?

I do vaguely recall that T-34 red stripe and SNAs being used as platoon commanders during the "surge".

During that time, I was busy being TAD'ed out of the FRS to a deploying squadron IOT get that 3rd star on the sea service deployment ribbon as an O-3...good times.

Agree with your comments on hardo 😆

Not to jump on the bandwagon, but be careful what/how you post on this forum. Its a very small world.

OK…I’ll ask…is Ward wrong on this? Are -22’s currently limited to a “30 minute range”? I can see that as a safety standard until more data is collected, repairs made, or crew competence updated, but is there a “rest of the story” here?

He's not wrong per se, he's just made a habit lately of producing overwrought And Now the Real Inside Tactical War Story! YouTube videos out of military news stuff that's actually routine or not a big deal. Given his background, he damn well knows better. Shamelessly using his creds to clickbait-farm for the airshow nerds and armchair air marshals, in other words.

Makes sense. I don’t typically watch his stuff.
