anyone have anything that they felt they couldn't have made it through cruise without. And by cruise I mean six months on a ship not a P-3 trip to per deim land. I've heard the standard shower shoes, sheets, smut, ect. just curious if anyone else hand something out of the norm that came in handy. thanks

Carpeting and duct tape will make that stateroom floor a lot warmer.

Laptop/X-box/etc. If you're truly ambitious, network cable and a hub will allow you to network with others for "Medal of Honor" free-for-alls. I was lucky to have a computer geek roommate.

Small TV w/DVD player and coax to hook it to ship's TV.

Some of those fold-out camping chairs, for watching the TV.

Bungee cords, for securing all that crap.

bungee cords are a must for the various electronics
Duct tape
velcro
checks
couple pairs of running shoes
try to score some electrical safety check stickers from the ship before the cruise so you dont' have to haul all your crap down for inspection at the last minute
your own linen and pillows...it makes the boat a little less depressing
carpet...check
folding chair...check (6-8 guys in a room with 3-4 chairs...can someone do the math for me?)
PS2
TV
DVD player
If you have a favorite non-parishable food, bring it
Set up all your bills so you can pay them online if you haven't done it yet
DVDs...you'd be amazed how many people bring a dvd player and no movies (make sure you've got your training videos ;) )
Ipod...AND charger

Cruise sock. : )

If you can get it easily to the boat for cruise...bring it. You can't make yourself too comfortable on deployment.

Coffee bean grinder, coffee maker, blender, lava lamp, beaded curtains, chillow....the list goes on and on....beach chair, sun block, cigar humidor, flannel sheets, your own nice pilows, etc....

Cheap carpet remnants (measure your room 1st time there, go by the exchange home store and pick up some leftover carpet from the end of a roll and cut to fit)

Huge quality of life improvement IMO (ok, granted - it's the boat) to walk around on carpet

For about $100 total (split it w/ your roomies), we had brand new plush pile. Oh yeah, got lots of choice comments from the envious...

Converted an end locker to an entertainment center. New 27" TV w/ a PS2 (doubles as DVD player), VCR, and mini stereo.

Absolute Must:
-Laptop w/good long games + music
-As big TV as you're willing to carry with remote(and your JO jungle brothers)
-DVD player and tons of movies (sometimes hard to get US version)
-GOOD pillow
-Beach chairs (for room and steel beach days)
Carrier ship's store has tons of crap to get by 'till the first port call, trust me, at the end of the cruise you'll have so much stuff you won't have room to put it, specially on a WESTPAC....hmm .....ahhh.........oohhh.....he he he!!!!....(giggles).....whoa!!....(more giggles)......

Damn!!! daydreaming again....

Remember, you can pimp out a blow-up doll to supplement that split-pay that never lasts.

I brought a guitar and lawn chair. Music source is a must also.

Go and buy an a$$-ton of your favorite soda. I mean, a really obscene amount. Had an LPO who brought on somewhere in the vicinitiy of 20 cases total of Dew, Diet Coke, and Dr Pepper. We thought he was nuts bringing them on with the dolly, but after several months of haji cokes (what we called the small, steel canned, cr@p-tasting, variety of soda you get in the gulf) one of his cans was great to get the hook-up anywhere on the boat. He'd let us buy them off him for 50 cents, making him a healthy profit, or sometimes just give out a few.

Bring all the stuff that eveyone else covered as well, but I noticed that soda wasn't on the lists.

Though I'm a COD guy, I spent 9 of 12 months onboard the boat for my first two cruises. So I've got some experience. Anyway, I always stock up on things like razors, deoderant, body soap, toothpaste, tooth brushes, etc. I get my stuff from COSTCO since you can buy it in bulk. That way you don't have to worry about buying anymore stuff on cruise.

Second on the coffe maker, they may tell you it is not authorized but ship coffee sucks so if they made better coffe I would follow their stupid rules.
Folding chairs are huge, comfortable and fold up and take no space at all. Get an egg crate foam pad for your rack. Screw deodorant who are you going to impress the one fat female ensign who has to wear sneakers because of swollen ankles, why bother. Bring one stick for libo ports.
Bring a fan, adn uhhh hand lotion.

And booze but dont be stupid with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
