I have been following Ezra’s work quite a bit since the election. He’s got some pretty good takes, and presents things without being preachy or partisan. He often articulates things in a way that helps me flesh out my own talking points around the never-ending dumpster fire in DC. I don’t agree with him 100% on everything, but he leaves plenty room for the listener to have a differing opinion.
I find the NYT has a number of columnists that are worth listening to: Thomas Edsall, David Brooks, Ross Douthat, Bret Stephens and Gail Collins on Monday morning. Same with the The Atlantic still being a good read, Tom Nichols in particular.

In contrast, the Washington Post has been sinking steadily for a decade (I let my subscription expire after the election.).

If you’re wondering how Donald J. Trump could win the Presidency, twice, when everyone on Twitter is screaming, then this article / video from the NYT is a good place to start. Ezra Klein is an excellent columnist, and David Shor is arguably the pre-eminent Democratic data analyst. While the article is superb, the video allows allows one to see the graphs and charts being discussed.

I recently heard him on a radio interview where he noted how difficult it was to find any Democrats who could name three planks on the party platform.

Interesting dude...I'd argue 95% of the population couldn't name any planks of any political party (making that stat up). It's all tribe-info/silo warfare now.
Yours is a valid point…unless “Own the (insert party insult here)!” is a plank.

i’m not much of political guy, and I’ve never heard the term “planks”. But I am aware of the basics.

NBC News just announced that the Democratic Party hit a new low in polling- only 27% approval rate. Not an outlier, CNN showed 29%. In your opinion, what is driving that poll number?

1) Party platform post

2) The Guardian had an article awhile back that stated the more politically focused Democrats were, the less accurate their views on Republicans were. In this particular post, the poster stated he wasn’t much of a political guy.

My guess is that numbers go down during an internal civil war - the Democrats are having the same internal war between factions that the Republicans did in 2016. I was more interested in hearing perspectives from others.

Democrats are for they/them, Trump's for you. And derivatives of that message. A combination of effective messaging by conservatives and dumb policy obsessions by the Democrats have damaged their brand. That said, it's not really worth obsessing over. Politics is cyclical and the current actions and policies emanating from the White House will likely be just as damaging to Republicans' brand.
