December Board Applicants

The way my OR described it to me was that the Board convenes once they have enough applications. He also, had one of his applicants selected but they submitted back in August-Sept. and he shipped out in Oct. True story. But as of now he believes that the Board will stay on schedule and convene in December with selections posted before Christmas, before everyone goes on Christmas-New Years vacation.

I would imagine that if they are making a point of changing it to a rolling board, they wouldn't just wait until the originally scheduled board date anyway. That would make the rolling board concept somewhat pointless, no? I'm not informed on how it all works out, but that makes sense to me (I know... I know... I'm trying to use logic, which I shouldn't).

I also have the same confirmation that the SWO/PILOT/NFO boards are rolling.

So with rolling boards, is there any average time frame between package receipt and board results being given? Or is it just totally random?

The rolling boards will convene no longer than 120 days a part, so my guess is that they'll convene between 3-6 weeks. Biggest factor will be when there's enough kits to be reviewed.

back before they went to the 4 boards per year, the schedule was that Pilot/NFO/SWO would essentially have a board every 4 weeks.

Alright, last newb board question for a while from me. Are we informed when a board is convening/has convened, or do you not really know until results start getting released?

This evening I got an email and then a phone call from my recruiter saying I'm pro rec Y for SWO! Heading down to LA for MEPS in two weeks -ish.

Excited? Yes.

Some stats:

24 years old
56 OAR
5 letters of recommendation from employers, internship supervisors, and my old BSA/ecclesiastical leader
3.3 GPA, English major, Brigham Young University
3 languages (English, Spanish, Japanese)
1 semester studying in Spain
1 semester volunteering in Argentina
2 years teaching in Japan, post-Fukushima
100+ projects as a freelance editor
Extracurriculars including Japanese fencing, ballet, and boxing

Don't know that it matters, but my father and brother are both AF officers.

I am applying for Supply/SWO/Intel. I took only the OAR portion and yes, it is the reading/math/mechanical tests. If you wanted to later try for a position that required the rest of the ASTB, you would have to retake the entire thing, and your most recent score would count. So say you got a 60 on the OAR when you only took it, but then you decided to take the full, and you made a 6/6/6 56. That 56 is the OAR that is submitted.

Hope that clarifies things for you a little. Good luck with your decision and application!

Thanks for your response. It helps a lot! Guess I need to further weigh my pros and cons. Good luck to you too!

If a person only takes the OAR they can do the ASTB part of that test (same form) and have a "test merge" done, but it has to be within 30 days.

If I took the test today, I have until the 21 of november to take the merge? Would I still be able to submit my package for December?
