Did anyone here ever fly the ES-3A Shadow?

I remember that also. It was a pretty okay look. But I get what you’re saying.
I remember thinking... really? Meh. The pics were pretty mild, even for Playboy's standards, IIRC. She definitely wouldn't have been a contender for a spot in that publication had it not been for the backstory and associated scandal. Pretty sure Playboy got what it paid for.

She wasn’t horrible looking…but you have to enjoy the pun that the Play Boy bunny was married to a fighter pilot with the last name of Loghides.

Oh, I had a high school friend who went on to NFO on ES-3. I think he ended up in the EP-3 later, but I could be mistaken.

That issue dropped during my Firstie year and copies made the rounds in the Hall pretty quick. As I recall, the girls in my class were overall royally pissed off about her doing the shoot, seeing as full female integration in the Navy wasn’t going all that smoothly as it was.

The best part was including her plebe year official picture in her FDBs.

I imagine Gen Z wouldn't have quite the issue that Gen Xers and Millennials would have. It seems these days everyone knows at least one friend with an only fans account.

I also doubt that it would be publicized as much today. The day of printed periodicals are long gone and the internet is full of, well, porn.

Though there is that one female Navy O that doesn't do much other than post on Instagram. She seems to piss a lot of people off

The article PhrogPhlyer posted above summarizes the issue quite while -- it's not about nudity or sex, it's about (1) profiting through use of your military status and (2) disrespecting the uniform/service.

Essentially, it's wrong for the same reasons it would be wrong for any of us getting paid to pose in uniform (or components thereof) for any media.

On my deployment with VS-31 and CVW 7 on the JCS maiden deployment, we had an ES-3A detachment. The only thing I remember was the female NFO in the ES-SA detachment that caught posing for Playboy . . . .
She was in my class in VT-10. All I will say is that the airbrush can do magic to photos.

I remember that. Not a great look for women in Naval Aviation.
There was a lot of churn during that time. I was in CVW-11 when Kara put the Tomcat in the water behind the boat (RIO had been a roommate of mine at VT-86). VF-213 also had “Pilot B” who was FNAEB’ed on cruise for landing performance. She ended up suing CAG and other folks.

VAQ-135 had one female pilot who didn’t make it through workups (landing grades). VA-95 was slated to get a pilot from VA-42. She field DQed, then day DQed, and the admirals wanted to keep pushing her but she pulled herself.

Got some other good stories but will keep it PG in this forum.

My training partner in sims was an LSO during that timeframe and Navy leadership didn't cover themselves in glory pushing folks past their ability to make headlines. I think we've long since moved to honest evaluation of flying talent, even if some groups are wildly under-represented.
