Making some assumptions, I'm estimating that I will begin my shore tour at little over 3.5 years post-winging. This will place me ~8.5 YCS commissioned.

From what I’ve seen, on the PERS side, detailers will adjust timing to ensure you are afforded the right opportunities to be considered for selection. Otherwise, you probably wouldn’t have been allowed to be winged so late, relatively speaking.

I will likely have my IZ and AZ O-4 looks during my first shore tour.

Does this mean I can self-induce a 2xFOS via a couple "Do Not Pick Me" letters and get out at the end of my shore tour?

Absolutely not.

I'd read 10 U.S. Code § 632, specifically (c)(2). I don't know if MSR technically extends ADSO, but I'm guessing Brett's right that your winging commitment sets your ADSO, and FOSing isn't going to shorten it.

From what I’ve seen, on the PERS side, detailers will adjust timing to ensure you are afforded the right opportunities to be considered for selection. Otherwise, you probably wouldn’t have been allowed to be winged so late, relatively speaking.

RecruitingGuru is correct. PERS will absolutely cut the rest of your tours as short as they can in order to get their pound of flesh out of you. I would keep an eye on NSIPS for unnanounced ORDMODS that change your PRD.

I would expect to get rolled early off shore so they can get a sea tour out of you. 2xFOS on the boat is common. You aren't as special as you realize.

I thought a 36-month JO tour, and 24-month shore tour were already the minimums. Didn't realize they can cut it even shorter.
Can I realistically catch up to my YG peers, or will I be perpetually behind timeline?

They’ve been pretty up front about it lately, at least amongst my peers. About 6-12 months after checking into the shore tour command, the detailers usually shoot you an email saying they’ve adjusted your PRD

Dude, if you want to kick ass as an aviator, and make it a career, your timing - whatever that may be - is most likely not going to be a roadblock to that. Your squadron COs (along with detailers/placement) have the tools (in most cases) to ensure their due course EP players have all the opportunities they need to be successful and have good paper going into promotion and screen boards. That should always be your goal, regardless of career intentions. Doing otherwise limits your options and opportunities.

Make sure you have that conversation with your Front Office, or a DH you trust if you don't have regular access to your CO/XO, about your timing to ensure they're tracking and planning ahead... they almost certainly already are. Conversely, if you aren't respected in the squadron and people know you plan to get out as soon as you can, then people aren't going to put in any effort to help you.
