The primary system we have created ensures that the most partisan rises fastest - the sickness built into that infected the republicans first and now the democrats. The kind of D you’re describing won’t get elected. The average voter won’t have changed that much. I know there are Bernie Bro voices in the party braying, “see, we should have run a far left candidate in 24.” Those voices are wrong, IMO.
