ERGM cancelled

Yep both on cruise and special project at China Lake (where we used it for something else). CVW-8 dropped a fair amount of Walleye in ODS.

During school for the ERDL in the early - mid 70's, we would get videos taken from targets in Vietnam. Targets of opportunity strutting across a bridge would often appear in the camera just before the screen went blank.

Is NGSF not practiced due to lack of areas to practice, or lack of funds, poor foresight in thinking they'd never need to use it, or what? Maybe Steve or PSW would be best qualified to answer this one...
Well considering the ships involved--CG's and DDG's, it seems as if it is a lower priority than the myriad of other things that also require frequent training to retain proficiency.

Those ships are designed to operate in every warfare area on Earth and, more recently, in Space as well, so it should come as no surprise that there is some deficiency in some areas. That is a natural byproduct of multi-tasking to the extreme.

It makes sense that naval gunfire would atrophy when the "big guns" are 5 inches.

Of course, this begs the scanario: Iowa BB 1945 vs. DDG today (guns only). I imagine those 5-in. pop guns could do some real damage.
