First flight of the P-8A Poseidon and all things related to transition

The issue is the number of landing of aircraft of a greater weight. Right now Jax can land anything, in fact I have a 747-400 coming in this week.

But the P-8 is heavier than both the P-3 and the C-40 so you now have a heavier aircraft that will be doing bounces on a regular basis.
Tell me more about "bounces" in this context. I means something different to me...do you just mean more "greased-on landings"? And if so, they wouldn't be landing at max weight, would they?

Serious question...I just don't understand yet. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Laps in the pattern. Just like in a T-34 or a Cessna. With the odd simulated 2 or 3 engine / no flap landing thrown in.

We definitely don't bounce the P-3 at max gross weight. 103,880 is the highest we'll bounce at.

I dont start transition until next month so I can't say for sure but I doubt they are bouncing P-8s at max GW either.

Laps in the pattern....
Got it...thanks. Do the airlines do this as well, or all in the sims? Again...serious. I'm guessing the sim...if representational of actual flight...would be more economical for this, but understand the other reasons for doing it.

The last Navy Prowler left either earlier this year or late last year, the ones coming off the line now are all headed to Cherry Point (they all come from the same Depot).

Makes sense. Bet Cherry Point will look like DM with Prowlers soon

McHale's Navy

sighted nothing..sank same.
Alright, serious question. My father was at -26 in the early '70s. He keeps asking me how the P-8 is going to be able to fully take over the mission of the P-3. Specifically, how is a 737 going to be able to fly at low alt/high turbulence? I work on Helos so I really can't answer that.

Short answer: New mods of SSQ don't require high-tempo MOT/OTPI, therefore PLOTSTAB is maintained at high altitudes despite low MDR TOI's.

Bounces are touch and goes. As for "greased-on landings", I think I used the word "sporty" previously.

As a helo bubba, I do not claim to be able to land a big-wing aircraft. However, from my office I have seen some landings that I would say are definately not "greased on".

Cripes, I'd figure with all the G squadrons they'd be done doing any rework of Prowers and have spares on the line at NUW.
Stop applying logic and common sense to the situation. Why stockpile parts locally when Lean Six Sigma Just-In-Time Supply will almost get you the parts you need 100 percent of the time?

All sims.
Am I right in remembering hearing that ALL flights in an airliner (with maybe a few exceptions) are paid fares? Ie: qual phase is all sims, and your first flight as a pilot is on a paid flight? I'm guessing this is the case for everything other than like a maintenance ferry flight or type-rating hop (do they do those anymore in the plane?)

Can't speak to the airlines, but we were initially told "the P-8s arent going to bounce". When the VX guys came down we mentioned that... they laughed.

That said P-8s goal is on a 70/30 sim/flight training program as it stands.

Just like AIPs weren't supposed to bounce, or BMUP+ birds weren't supposed to bounce, or mission birds weren't supposed to bounce....

riiiiiiiiiiight.
