Thanks for all the posts relative to the subject...

-I don't understand why anyone would want to avoid the "Jet draft." Does that mean the cut that makes it to jets advanced? I mean I like helicopters a lot, but I wouldn't turn down a shot for the super hornet any day.

- I looked into the WOFT program, but I'm already in college and intend to graduate w/a 4yr degree. I would feel like I wasted all that money/time on education if I didn't get the pay grade that reflects a college graduate. Thus, USMC/USN aviation interests me more because of more room for advancement in rank and other privelages such as being part of this community. I'm not saying the Army isn't something I would consider, but do you get what I'm saying?

I absolutely would go Marine Corps or Navy aviation over the Army. I spent ten years plus in the Army National Guard/Reserves after leaving the active duty Marine Corps. I have great respect for Army aviation and enjoyed flying OH-6s,D/H model Hueys and CH-47s but your thinking is correct, in my opinion.

Touchy, touchy, touchy ALL OF YOU! I guess my lack of AW "smileys" had some people mistaken that I was being touchy, sensitive, insecure, reTARDed???

Ok, how about this: :icon_tong

On a forum of Naval Aviators, I expect some thicker skin. Can dish it but can't take it Brett? Need some help digging your panties out of your hole?

Blackballed from being a bus driver? I mean, sorry, blackballed from an airliner?? CHILLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

Lighten up! :) :) :)

Now that I've cleared the air, would someone please remove the giant a$$ from my profile picture? That'd be great. Thaaaanks.

You don't hear me complaining and banning you from employment with certain organizations. :D I can "take" all you can muster, Mister. :)

I'm with you, bro. They all need a good smack-down every so often. I invite every one of them to MY community to learn a little humility. :D

I hope you never wanted to work as a Hawaiian Airlines pilot - you just got black balled. I'm pretty sure I can arrange that you will never be interviewed by Aloha too.

Signed,
P-3 NFO / Hawaiian Airline Pilot (sort of - furloughed but will be back)

Hey Wink, how do you feel about NFOs flying for major airlines........

Would being black balled from this Hawaii Air or whatever actually be a bad thing? It seems to me that working there just leads to unemployment. No offense, but you’ve been furloughed for a long time.

Helos are all good.

Of course I joined thinking I was Maverick and was going to cloud surf in my F-14, but things happened.....things called Precision Aerobatics and I realized I don't like negative Gs..... I also remember cleaning up my vomit after a short break in the T-34 so helos it was.

I am sure I would have eventually adapted, but my IPs were lessed than impressed with my stellar puking, so here I am today flying giant helicopters that tow things through the water.

Actually all the financial gurus think Hawaiian is one of few the airlines that is being run smartly. We are also either first or in the top 5 in all the rated service categories and have been for the majority of the last 3 years.

I am not furloughed because the airline is doing bad financially. I am furloughed because the airline transitioned from the 3 man DC-10 to the 2 man 767. We have not cut back any service but have expanded since I was furloughed. The problem is that Hawaiian can not find any good used 767-300s on the market to increase its expansion. Management refuses to pay more than the available ones are worth or an amount that would mean any route they put them on would be unprofitable. Plus management wants to be able to transition to 787s or similar aircraft within the next 10 years and leasing new 767-300s means a 20 year lease. Management wants to expand smartly and profitably. Our Board of Directors has approved the acquisition of 6 more 767s and when the right planes are found at the right price, Hawaiian will acquire them. That would get all the furloughs back and result in new hiring. Many 767s should start becoming available as the 787s hit the airlines next year. We are already talking with ANA about getting some of their 767s as they transition to the 787.

Hawaiian just yesterday announced 17 more recalls effective 1/1/07. That will have just about half the furloughed pilots recalled in a 6 month period. I was in the last new hire class and am only 4 from the bottom of the list. I expect to be back in about a year. If management keeps doing what they have been for the last 3 years, I doubt (barring another 9/11 type event) I will have to worry about being re-furloughed.

I have actually turned down a couple of opportunities because I think Hawaiian is the place to be. If I was hired at another major, I would probably leave to go back to Hawaiian when recalled. The only exceptions would be Southwest and FedEx.

On offense taken but I do believe being black balled from Hawaiian would be a bad thing. We have great schedules, great work rules, good pay and a good retirement plan. And you can't beat the location. Plus as I said earlier, for you rotor heads, we are one of the few airlines that won't make you earn a couple of thousand of hours of fixed wing multi-engine time before hiring you.

BTW, except for Southwest, FedEx and UPS. Working at any major after 9/11/2001 could have led to unemployment. Delta, US Airways, American, Northwest and United still have pilots furloughed too. Many longer than I have been. It's part of the airline life.
