I'm very good friends with bird guy, he did make O-5 and has had a very successful career up until this point! We were told that one of the bird guys recently made O5.
So maybe *do* kill birds

He was my TO when I was with the Rippers and the reason I applied to the course myself.Great WSO! He was in my first airwing, and was at SFWSL when I was a TO during our workups.
Well I was thinking of a different guy, so at least two of them made O-5.He was my TO when I was with the Rippers and the reason I applied to the course myself.
Didn’t Clapton sing about this? It's clear there never was a student that shot a bird. It was just a legend that gives everyone hope in making O-5.
"You're welcome."
-The Navy (probably)
Throw in some Strange Brew, and some Cocaine and you have the makings of a great weekend.Didn’t Clapton sing about this?
I shot the birdie, but I did not drive on base drunk.
I short the birdie, but I did not drive on base drunk.
All around P’Cola town
They're trying to track me down
They say they want me to pay dearly
For the killing of a little birdie
But all I want is to get away
And maybe make O-3
But I say…
I just heard the new skipper of VP-9 is only going to be there for a year. Is that a VP thing now, or one of these manning adjustments? It’s not so much about career advancement as it is filling billets, especially the disassociated sea tour.
Once you screen for O4 and then DH you get rolled to a DH tour. People are taking so long to get through flight school that when they screen for O4 they’re sometimes still at the end of their shore tour or just started their boat tour. So they don’t have time to do the full boat tour. Traditionally everyone had enough time so it wasn’t much of an issue. At the park me of the day, PERS has to find a way to put bodies in billets.
Curve ball question, I know, but where would tilt-rotor guys fit in this scheme?Head of Vance AFB UPT just did an overview stream for their UPT 2.5 concept. It’s not the primary focus of this topic but I think some of the innovations might soon be appropriated to combat some of the bottlenecks.
Big things:
28 flight hour IFT (NIFE equivalent) in the DA-20, ~7 solo flights
Students can self select helos and heavies before beginning UPT, heavy self selectees will have an accelerated winging (~7.5 months from IFT to wings). Results in 150 extra pilots per year.
Wings awarded after T-6 syllabus, must solo within 15 sorties (most will do it in 5 because of VR practice)
Class then splits into about 6-7 T-38 and ~16 T-1
T-1 syllabus will have a heavy emphasis on sims (only 4 real flights as opposed to 55 sims before moving on to C-17 for example and will do most real- flight instruction on their fleet airframe in FRS)
Heavies finish school with 138 flight hours
Bombers finish school with 178
Fighters finish with 202
Results
The whole enterprise will have a “student athlete” flavor, meaning students will receive an oculus headset, iPad, all study materials, YouTube tutorials, and 24/7 SIM ACCESS to maximize chair flying time and efficiency at the beginning of UPT. There will be an even larger expectation of preparedness between and before flights.
There will be easy access to dieticians, personal physical trainers, and cognitive specialists.
As far as I can tell, they will be a pathway of the helo self selecting class. There is no mention of them on the T-6 selecting pathways that were diagrammed.Curve ball question, I know, but where would tilt-rotor guys fit in this scheme?
Wings awarded after T-6 syllabus
I believe the follow-on plan is to make the entire syllabus T-6 focused after which those assigned fighter/attack will encounter the new jet trainer in the squadron they will be with for type training (basically T-6, wings, assigned to type, trained on baby jet and type in same place). This is so dumb, it's just to say they're producing pilots quicker, even though they're still going on to follow on trainers
Sorry, not sure if this question is directed at me specifically but I’m not VP. I was HSM, now VR.I just heard the new skipper of VP-9 is only going to be there for a year. Is that a VP thing now, or one of these manning adjustments?
Oh, I know what stink you wear, and it is a good bit better than VP . Replied to your post only because it was the closest related to my question.Sorry, not sure if this question is directed at me specifically but I’m not VP. I was HSM, now VR.
All the aviation CO tours I’ve seen tho are a little over a year (15 months-ish)…XO to CO fleet up so their total tour is about 30 months.
