NPR is pretty left, they cater to their "sponsors". IIRC they're CEO a few years ago was canned for trying to balance the lean with more conservative viewpoints.

But they are more balanced than CNN or FOX.

I listen to KCRW daily, best music and news on the radio.

Actually it was the chairman of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting that provides funding to PBS and NPR. And he was a disaster, he did some pretty shady (as in possibly criminal) things during his tenure. He was succeeded by another staunch Republican who seems to have garnered a lot less controversy, and governed better, though she was been a fierce critic of both in the past.

Some Pakistani military types are good, some (including some 'paramilitary' groups) are not so good. But they have a sticky situation on their border, dealing with tribes that have never been fully subdued, even by the British during their rule of India. And they tried, several times, to do so. Additionally, their expeditions into Afghanistan were infamous and utter disasters.

So, the tribal/frontier regions of Pakistan will be a problem long after everyone on this board retires. It is just something we will have to deal with, and mitigate as best we can.
