FY10 STA-21 Applicants gather round!

Hey everyone. how often is it that an applicant doesn't get their first choice of school. I got one acceptance letter from the school I want, but no others. Should I be worried?
I personally don't know of any that didn't get their first choice, especially when the paperwork was in before reporting to NSI. It got more difficult for the people whose acceptance letters didn't come in time, but they were able to change even in NSI. So I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Any prior selectees (for FEB class up date)out there that can shed some light on how long it took to get BUMED to qualify physicals? Was it after the holiday season?

My command is starting to ask me a lot of questions about this as well....

I didn't get my orders to report until Jan. and I had to report Feb. 17th IIRC for FY08. If you've turned in your physical and all the required documents you will be fine. I sent Ed an e-mail to verify that he had everything and I went to AvPhys to verify that they sent my SNA physical to NOMI. It did take a little while for NOMI to clear it, but everything worked out ok.

My physical was submitted to Mr Staten on the 16th and submitted to BUMED on the 18th. Status is still pending review. I don't know if they set a priority for alternates and selectees however, I would assume not.

For Feb 21 convene date your acceptance letters and degree plans must be in NLT 22 December

Anyone else, leaving in February, having a hard time getting everything in? The only thing we are waiting on is the acceptance letters. The hubs has applied to JU and UNF. JU is working with us, but UNF keeps giving us the run around. We want UNF, as JU is a private school. The worst part is, the schools are closing on the 18th!

How hard is it to switch schools?

Very easy. Most active duty that originally enroll at JU switch to UNF or FSCJ within a year due to costs. I was in the same situation in 07. UNF is really not that helpful. Call 904-256-7488 and speak with LT. Dalton. He is the Nuke officer at JUNROTC. He personally helped me get my stuff through the UNF bureaucracy. It took until late January, but it did get done. If you have any other questions PM me.

Garnet&Gold: I am accepted and going to UNF's Coggin school of business next year. I found some loop holes to getting into there school but there are a lot of stipulations with there university. I will be checking in with an AA but with the Navy classes as well as Pysics and Calc I am going to be doing 110 credit hours in 2 years and 1 semester instead of the full three years. If you have any questions or need some help just pm me.

I need some help

I was seleted for SWO this year (3rd app.) and I am 26. Swo requires that you are commissioned by your 28th birthday, no waivers. That gives my 2 summer, a spring and a fall term. I currently attend Troy University online and I am 2 classes away from graduating with a degree in Management. With the required calc, phsyics, and Naval Science courses that puts me 20 or 22 classes from graduating at UNF or JU. What should I do? I wonder if I could re-des to NFO or CORE? My NSI class starts in Febuary.

Not sure if this would be the easiest route but you could take an online class here and there throughout your semesters and have them transfer to the school you are attending. You will already be busy with your regular schedule and ROTC bullshit so this might not be a good idea but it is an option. During NSI you will have time to work on an online class so maybe enroll in one now.

A second option is to TRY to re-designate to NFO. I have a friend here at my ROTC who showed up as an NFO and switched to Nuke while at the University. Not sure if this is an easy process or possible. The Nuke field is always looking for people so maybe that's why he was allowed to switch. Might want to look into it though.

Lastly, if you are only 2 classes shy of a degree there is always OCS. You can turn down your STA-21 acceptance and start working on an OCS application. I know that sucks (not for the lurking alternates on here anyways) but it is an option. I would look into online classes if I were you. Whatever you decide, good luck!!

He is cuurently the training PO, so taking time to get things done has been a job itself. JU will allow me to call for him and get things done, they said they will have an acceptance letter for us this week.

UNF on the other hand, a huge pain. The first time I called admissions, the lady scolded me for even trying to talk to them about my husband.
They told him on Friday, that there is no way to get an acceptance letter by the 18th (which is when they close) because we didn't have an application in before November 13th, he put his in on the 14th!!! So, we're hoping to get a letter sometime in January and hopefully they'll let him switch before he even leaves for NSI, or attends classes.

Exactly. Worse comes to worse, your hubby gets into JU and then immediately transfers into UNF the following semester. You might have to come out of pocket for your short stay at JU, but if it means getting into STA-21 then..... I was looking at a 3 month underway this time 2 years ago and UNF would still not work with me. They are more focused on spring enrollment now, not summer. Don't forget FSCJ. if you can get an acceptence letter from them that would work too.

Yea, ouch! :icon_roll

A single spelling error made typing a message at midnight! I'm sure that hasn't happened before. :sleep_125 Good catch though! :D
