So I just got back from sea a few days ago. Unfortunately we do not have internet access on a submarine so it was quite difficult communicating with the STA 21 people but I was able to get my physical sent to them (no thanks to my command but thanks to my girlfriend) and am qualified physically. Now I have to figure out where I want to go to college. When are the degree plans and acceptance letters due for the May 2010 NSI class. My gf told me not until like late FEB or MAR. I will call Ed Straten but assume he is on stand down right now. I have a few acceptance letters and degree plans but am just trying to weigh my options. If any one knows a good college that will work with us (ie rolling admissions) and what not please let me know. Thanks.

I am set to class up on 16MAY and my letter said that acceptance letters and signed degree plans are due by 17MAR. One o f the schools I applied to faxed the degree plan in without me even knowing I had been accepted. Something to look into.

Question for those who have previously gone through NSI as a single sailor (in my case - single E5) getting BAH - does BAH stop while you are in NSI for the two months you are living in Newport? Thank you!

Yes, for someone with no dependents for the 8 weeks you will receive no BAH

I went to NSI in May 09 as a single E-5 and I did not lose my housing allowance.... They said "you are TAD here, why would we stop your housing allowance?"

I also left Norfolk and came right back to ODU, so I never stopped paying my mortgage.

Your BAH shouldnt stop until you get to your school unit and they change it to their location. It used to stop for BOOST students because they were in Newport for 5-6 months so they were PSC to Newport, but there is no more BOOST and your orders will be TAD.

I don't know how it's been in the past but I read over a year ago you would not receive it on the STA-21 website (but they have Rev'd it quite a bit and I can't find it now). I just got off the phone with Ed Straten and he said "No, with no dependents you will not continue to receive BAH during NSI". It might slip by but because you are living in barracks you SHOULD NOT receive it. I would plan on not receiving it so that if you do it is a bonus.

If I remember right they would not stop your BAH if you returned to the area where you were stationed before. So unless you are moving you should keep it.

Has anyone got their orders yet or know roughly the timeframe they should be coming out if you have met all the conditional selectee reqs?

Talked to Ed this morning, he said orders for the May NSI should be out sometime mid march. not sure about the first NSI.

Has anyones physical cleared NOMI yet? Also does anyone know of any alternates being called up as of yet? It has turned out to be a major PITA to try and get the ACT retaken while over here in Iraq.
