FY12 STA-21 Applicants

My page says they received it 7/7/2011. so I guess I will wait until the 17th or even the 20th. What is a good contact number so I can call if it still has not been completed?

Honestly, if you have a question or are curious, try emailing them first. Mr. Paros (Retired YNCM) is on top of it. He said give him two weeks from the 6th ... so the 20th, but if you just want to confirm email him and he usually gets back to you within a couple of hours or first thing the next morning. If you want to call them, Mr. Ed Stratton is usually there to pick up the phone listed on the STA-21 Website. Good Luck.

Hey everyone. This is my forth time applying for the program. I was an Alternate Last year for CORE. Putting in for SWO/CORE this year. Just found out that the school I want to go to doesn't accept SMART Transcripts for transfer credit and I don't have any previous college experience. Anybody already in the program or any Officers that have passed the program know if it's easy to get a degree plan and finish your bachelor's in the required 36 months with no prior credits? Thanks for the help. Good luck to everyone applying.

why not just apply to a different school?

You'll find that a lot of the schools don't accept them. It's possible to get a degree in 36 months, but it would be in your best interest to get a degree plan from the school you intend to attend to prove that it's possible. Just speculation from another hopeful STA-21 candidate.

It is very possible to get a degree done in three years with no prior credits, however, you may be limited to what degrees you are able to complete. A lot of this comes down to, what classes are offered in the summer, and if a degree requires a lot of sequential classes. Also be aware that you will probably run over your "STA-21" yearly tuition, especially if you try to play catch up during the summer.
What Jeeplovindad said is absolutely right, even as a nuclear electrician, with supervisor qualifications, they did not accept any of my smart credits at CU.

I found that officially KU counted about nothing.

I also found that talking to the right person in the right office for a while changed that a bit. In my case (and the cases of many of those who followed my advice afterward) it was the person in the Engineering school itself that certifies graduations. a few hours of walking around and talking gave me quite a few credits.

I had a plan that worked without it, but it's easier to not have to worry about having more things to do.

Also, look into your schools CLEP policy (and start taking some now as well). I know after reading I found out a simple CLEP in chemistry counted as a 5 credit hour chemistry course. Unfortunately, I figured this out after I took chemistry, but my wife took advantage of it. I took CLEPs and got a few more courses done that way....and all I had to pay for them was a $20 admin fee

Just curious to know some strong points in packages for others going for the FY'12 STA-21. I have:

I am just curious about the caliber of sailors for this years STA-21. Thank you for your time and attention.

Now that we have submitted our packages, what option did everyone apply for? I submitted a package for pilot/core.

I put in for NFO. I'm really hoping to pick it up because I just turned 27 and next year it will be harder convincing the board I can get my degree in time. I'm trying to knock out what classes I can in the meantime. The numbers for NFO have been all over the place since STA-21 came around so it's really anybody's guess.

I applied for NFO/CORE, first time. NFO has been all over the place, but it seems to have a good percentage of picking people up. I am hopeful that I have a shot. I looked at the Stats post from last year and tried to use those a reference to compare my package to others. I think I might start a thread for this years applicants.
