Has anyone heard of IFS???

I was talking to the XO of the ROTC unit at school and he told me about a training school called IFS which you go to before API. I haven't found anything about it on this website and was wondering if anyone has ever heard of this?
 
There's a Navy website all about it, not sure what it is, but do what tali said and you'll probably find it. Its not so much a school as a program.
 
IFS is for pilots (not sure if all fo's go to it yet). IFS = ~25 hrs of single engine (cessna/piper) time. The theory is that it gets rid of those early who find out they have no love for flying, and it makes the first couple flight in primary more of a learning experience, rather than a total shock.
 
NFO's are doing IFS now, too. It's only about half as much as the pilots, thought (13.5 hours).

I heard that if you don't get at least a 50 NSS during IFS, you get dropped from aviation and have to go to IOC.
 
I noticed it had requirements listed for pre-commissioning on there. Does that mean I can get the Navy to pay for all of that at a local flight school while I'm going through school in the STA-21 program?
 
depends on the location of the school, and then it would only be the last few weeks b4 you commission.
 
IFS is some basic flight training that introduces you to flight. The Air Force does the same thing (often at the same locations) which they call IFT. The AF version is designed to get their guys some time up early on and to ultimately make them better...the Navy version is purely for elimination purposes. Having said that, IFS is actually a lot of fun (at least so far for me). Don't sweat it.
 
The USAF IFT program authorizes up to 50 hours and the end result is a PPL. If you already have a PPL you won't do it. If you aren't USAF you won't do it, either!

damn, I thought I could scam my way into some AF training, but nevermind.
