I did the tuna diet (nothing but tuna, lettuce, and water) for two weeks and lost about 7-8 lbs.

Losing that much weight is a long-term process, you just need to keep at it, even if you need to wait until you're sure you can pass. It sounds like you're on the right track losing 30lbs since January. You didn't put it on overnight, you can't expect to lose it that way.

I went from 242 - 178 in 8 months. Just keep at it. Drink tons of water, and make sure every decision you make is with your goals in mind. GIVE UP THE BEER/ALCOHOL. ALL OF IT. Water only, and milk if you need calcium.

Good luck OP.

Post whatever you want. My beef is that some folks will take as gospel what works for one guy/girl. The diets and supplements you mention may be hugely in the fitness world, and, they may work. Or not. That or not part is what bugs me a bit....and that's why I tend to be critical of stuff which does not have proper research applied.

"...Once you start wearing a [thought screen] helmet [the aliens] may harass you or perhaps threaten to kill a pet in retaliation..."

+1 for that link. Hilarious.

I tried a low carb diet back in the day, combined it with lots of exercise, and it worked really well. I didn't get much stronger, but don't remember losing strength (so you could say my strength-to-weight ratio went up). I don't think my run was affected at all either way (although I was trying to lose weight, not be fast).

If you're trying to lose weight quickly, it's not a bad idea, but it's really hard to do for a long time.

There is one system out there (don't remember the name) that prescribes an extremely low amount of carbs (i.e., 10g or less - remember that fiber doesn't count, so you can subtract it from the total carbs) for 2 meals in the day, then a 3rd meal lasting an hour or less in which you have all the carbs you need/want (the idea is to take in "good" carbs like fruits and whole grains). The idea with all the low-carb diets is glycogen/insulin control. For some reason, this diet claims your body will adjust the insulin it produces based on the previous meal's sugar (i.e., carbohydrate) intake. By having almost none, you can trick your body into not producing the fat-storing chemicals during the 1 meal where you can still get the carbs that are good for you. Note that you must have 2 very low carb meals in between every high carb one for this to work.

Anyway, good luck. Whatever you do:

"Once you make a thought screen helmet you must wear it as frequently as possible. The aliens know when you are not wearing it and will take you at that time."

Rg9, that sounds like South Beach. It is a 3-phase diet, which cuts all carbs for 2 weeks, then slowly begins re-introducing them, complex carbs first. I'll be honest, it sucked, and I'd rather be able to have a little bit of freedom and just work out extra hard.

-Just me. I got REALLY tired of eating only (mostly) meat. I felt like I was sweating beef grease.

Regardless of whether or not it effects your metabolism as advertised, a low-carb diet makes you completely uninterested in the food you can eat, and kills your appetite.

And that is why diets usually suck. I would rather sit on my ass, NOT eat certain foods, and magically lose weight. Guess what, so would most people! You don't have to DO anything (and that's why they can be marketed; they're "so simple!"). They are inherently temporary measures, and they are understood as a temporary "suck" that will produce results without effort by EVERYONE that ever goes on one.

Making the change in lifestyle from Fat-assery to some level of fitness requires you doing something in the form of some regular exercise and making permanent changes to how you eat.

Hmm... I've obviously heard of that one, but don't know much about it. I think the mechanics of it are different, though, cause it's a daily adjustment of insulin levels. Regardless, I think any diet is going to suck.

PigzFly,

I was in the exact same position, only I was under constant check because of ROTC. I am 5'9" and was anywhere between 257 and and 208lbs the 5 years I was in school. I'll tell you this, it should be easier for you than me right now just due to your age. Simply this, work out more cardio than lifting, but still lift. Your college FB workouts are alright, just include more cardio and longer distance. You need to simply keep the caloric intake down, do cardio first and do no less than 500 calories, no matter how long it takes, then work the weights and it will keep your heartrate and metabolism up longer during your weight lifting and burn more calories. You will definitely burn over 1000 calories per work out. Do that for 3 weeks and do it on the treadmill and open road/outdoor running. That will burn the most the fastest.
6 smaller meals, instead of the larger meals a day. Get off the training table and the Dining facility schedule you've been on.

Good luck,
CRA

Anyone have any tips for shrinking? lol
I am 6'5 175...Beanstalk is my nick name.

Well, it sucks but you can't take it from the middle, its either your feet or your head. I've heard you can take a pill for it, or also do the chinese leg folding technique with binder twine and a couple grain feed sacs.

As someone who has been there, done that... DO NOT SHOW UP TO OCS NEEDING TO BE ROPE AND CHOKED!

That is attention you DO NOT WANT.

(trust me on this)

Yeah, I am working on it. But before I can even get to OCS I have to pass MEPS. Which if selected I only have 30 days to complete. The rope and choke is my only option currently, considered they want me still 40lbs lighter.
