@wink I couldn’t get the page to download yesterday, but here is a great description of a “light armed” scout OH-23G Raven…

“When I got to the Cav the 23's had an m-60 fixed on the left skid, crew chief in the right door with an M60 and an enlisted observer in the left door with an M79. Then grenades, smoke and willy peat grenades hanging all over the place. God help us if we lost an engine the first 30 mins of flight (slightly overloaded). We weren’t the fastest and I suppose not very impressive but it seemed, at least to me, a very effective application overall.”

You buddy can check out this site for inspiration!

Awesome resource. Thanks.

Time to rub some revenant oil on this nearly dead thread. AUSA is in town and Leonardo is there working hard to sell their AW-119 training services to the Army (who are having issues with their TH-67 fleet).

@Griz882 Awesome model. I believe the Army has gone entirely to the UH-72 has the sole training aircraft for zero time IERW primary training. I believe the TH67 has been totally divested.

That said, there are cost issues and reviews on the UH72 as a primary trainer are mixed. Using. A two engine aircraft for primary training is certainly not ideal from a cost standpoint. But the congressional machine made sure that the Army and National Guard had a surplus of UH72 helicopters from Airbus. They fit the aircraft to the mission instead of using requirements. It doesn't surprise me at all that the Army would like a simple trainer. That is a modern aircraft with modern technology.

The Air Force continues to invest in its TH 1H which is a completely remodeled huey2 with modern glass avionics and has been a remarkable trainer in highly successful.

You are correct about the -72 as a trainer and the fact that the old Bell ships are gone. The Leonardo folks are there (like all the others) to sell products and ideas. I noticed they were pressing flesh with a few NATO militaries as well. Like last year there are plenty of mock-ups for the FVL models but one army aviation guy I spoke with thinks they will split that baby and buy from Sikorsky and Bell.

Leonardo had to build a production line nearly from the bottom up to build the TH-73. Not surprised they’re fishing for more military sales of the -119 to make that investment stretch a little further.

It will be interesting to see how long the Army continues IERW with the UH-72. No autos, no solo. They are making it work, but it's hideously expensive, 4x from TH-67.

A few years back the army decided to get rid of all their armed scout helicopters and rely only on the Apache. Everyone in the field said it wouldn’t work so of course the army did it anyway. Fast forward and now the army is crying for a new interim armed scout…enter the Airbus OH-145M! I swear…these decisions and changes are made years in advance!

Not a helicopter but….Holy zombie revival! These guys want to pull old OV-10 Mohawk’s out of the boneyard and fix them up with new sensors and stuff for contract army missions.

Kind of odd when you see the display space filled with short, long, and very-long range UAV’s that carry the same sensors if not more.

What is this? A helicopter for ants? The real thing must be at least… 3 times bigger than this!

Savvy marketing by Airbus. This would be a short putt for the Army. I could see this happening.
