How long do nfo's normally serve?

...As for my real point, on staff I have to think about who is an NFO and who is an aviator. The distinction is so meaningless that it reminds me of the academy vs ROTC vs OCS distinction...

Of course everyone in my unit seemed to notice the stalker/harasser villain in the CTC training was an NFO with one Hornet driver calling it 'the most realistic depiction' they had ever seen in Navy training.

My mom once asked me, "So as an NFO, what civilian job could you do that involves flying?" The first vision that came to mind was of me walking through the P-3C tube setting Condition 5 prior to takeoff - making sure everyone had their seat belts fastened, seat backs in the upright position, gear secured, etc - so I said, "Flight attendant." That being said, I'm not anywhere near 'the outside' so I can't speak to possible futures. I've heard of a lot of NFOs that have done well for themselves though.

I'm sue this verges being on off topic, as swampertness surely wants current info, but I'll throw out, for general interest, that in the late 60s/early 70s, for NFOs in the A5 (that would be RANs, Reconnaissance Attack Navigators), the retention rate was around zero, depending on whether anyone stayed in that year.
