Has anyone had a chance to fly the updated Huey. I read about it in the Marine Corps Times. I was just wondering how much better it is than the old.

Good friend just selected the Yankee. Says its unbelievable, now a true jack of all trades - More weapons, more range, more speed, more fun.

Thats why when they escort us we have to slow back to like 85 knots? Seriously though, all the Huey pilots I know are really excited about the new aircraft and can't wait to get the added capabilities...

I don't know if it was the Yankee, but just yesterday my entire OCS class got rides in a Huey thanks to the RI Army National Guard. It was badass.

So true, so true... I remember as a young Lt flying my first big package. Mixed section escorting us. The skids told us they were sprinting forward, and my HAC looked over at me and said "that means we need to slow down" and then pointed out towards the 8 o'clock. Kept seeing the Huey's nose dip, lose altitude, than raise its nose and climb back in position. It was comical.

If it was the national guard, it wasn't the Yankee.

The Yankee will be a reall step up from the current Huey, not that everyone doesn't love the current one, but I think everyone can admit that its an improvement that is greatly needed.

Not to stir up a hornets nest, but the natural question now is was the Yankee the right choice as a step forward or would a varient of the H-60 have been a better choice?

Hmmm, I wonder who else thought of that.......;)

Sounds just like a Blackhawk!

I really wonder if the long-term savings and ease of inter-operability will really make up for all of the development costs and length of time the USMC has waited for the Yankee. I know it sounds 'little' but I think some of it is an instance of the USMC wanting to be 'different'.

If you use enough of the same equipment next thing you know someone will be asking "why do we need the Marine Corps"?

Ok gents that one is high and away for somebody.
