2) The best thing you can do for yourself is have a well broken in pair of boots. Best money I ever spent was getting a pair of Danner Ft. Lewis boots 2 months prior and breaking them in well.

Go in the winter and you will be required to wear the Bunny Boots.

Go in the winter and you will be required to wear the Bunny Boots.

Again, it comes down to the difference between Warner & Brunswick; note the difference between what each say about boots under "Required Gear":

Brunswick: Issue boots that are well-fitted and broken-in (during winter months 1 Nov through 1 May footwear will be provided)

Warner: High-top military issued boots (well broken in)
http://www.faso.navy.mil/wartimesere.htm

Could be that Warner also issues VBs in winter, but I didn't buy that t-shirt - only Brunswick's. ;)

I know, I was adding to your post. I went though Brunswick. Winter months you will not be wearing your own footwear.

What % of Marine aviators go to SERE school? Is it airframe dependent, or dependent on other factors?

Dependant on $ as is everything. Probably close to 100% of the F/W guys, helo guys depends year to year, I think the percentage is probably improving, as in more are going.

Thanks skid. Good to hear that more aircrews are going... but if its dependent on $$$ (with the MC getting .07 cents to every dollar spent by the DOD), do you think it will still be limited in the future?

Hmm, that is interesting... I was under the impression that all aircrew were required to go to SERE.

I never went, watched the videos instead (Level B something or other). Sometimes between school slots ($) and optempo there are not opportunities to go. If you have a burning desire to go you will probably be able to go, if you are indifferent about it maybe maybe not.

I was too... apparently that goes for Navy... but its dependent on certain factors (like $$$) for the MC side. Semper gumby...and what not.

I never figured out why Marines are not required to go. It's very valuable training and boot camp/OCS is not going to provide THAT kind of training, despite how tough you think you are. Does the Marine Corps just prioritize it differently?

good question.. However TBS does give you some good field skills from what I've heard. Hopefully there will be an increase in the amount of crews that go... nobody should deny them their moments getting de-loused, isloated, and interrogated.

I think I'll be pretty proactive about going. I had a chance to have a pretty long discussion with Capt. Scott O'Grady a few months ago. He was dead serious about the advantages of SERE and taking that training very seriously. It definitely convinced me.
