I don't get the CAR thing. What does it actually mean? If you get shot at, you get a CAR? Or have there been sliding standards?
According to SECNAVINST 1650.1G, they're eligible:I don't get the CAR thing. What does it actually mean? If you get shot at, you get a CAR? Or have there been sliding standards?
(d) Personnel aboard a ship are eligible when
the safety of the ship and the crew were endangered by enemy
attack, such as a ship hit by a mine or a ship engaged by shore,
surface, air or sub-surface elements.
(2) The principal eligibility criterion is that the
individual must have participated in a bona fide ground or
surface combat fire-fight or action during which he/she was
under enemy fire and his/her performance while under fire was
satisfactory. Service in a combat area does not automatically
entitle a service member to the CAR.
Seeing as how I was under enemy fire, but slept through it - I would hardly call my performance satisfactory. I tried to tell everyone that wanted to listen, but it didn't matter...
There is a very short and sweet answer to this...
IWs Do Intel and Intel Os Brief Intel.
As for the opinion Sub, Surf, and Air guys have of the community... they're basically bus drivers. Their purpose in life is to get us to the area where we do our missions, and pull the trigger if the mission requires. Would you rather be driving the bus, briefing the drivers or actually doing the mission?
There is a very good reason we don't have to do all the day to day BS, and fly out to meet those guys for mission requirements.
