Kids and toy guns

Interesting op-ed piece in the Washington Post about boys, toy guns, and crazy parents who think that combining the two will turn their kids into serial killers.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/02/23/AR2007022301749.html

Funniest part: There seems to be something "hard-wired" with the XY chromosome that leads boys to glance at a small moss-covered branch and immediately see an air-cooled, camouflaged, fully automatic 50-caliber Browning rifle with attachable bayonet.

Part that made me the angriest: The parents who refused to let their children attend an Army-themed birthday party.

Kids have played cowboys and indians since the days of cowboys and indians. The notion that males are, for the most part, inherently more aggressive is nothing new. Serial killers are a very unique and special subset of humanity with specific personality and/or other mental disorder. No credible scientist espouses the idea that letting kids play with guns will create more serial killers.

Haha.

Lest somebody read that and misunderstand, the article isn't about serial killers--I was just exaggerating to point out the ridiculousness of some of the attitudes of the parents in that article.

Parents are morons, which is why I refuse to be one.

More like too many morons are parents. Today's society is too accomodating, politically correct, and accepting of irresponsibility. Let's all blame Hollywood the video game industry, the NRA and the musicians for our problems.

Start them off right when they are young.

So when some kid says "Hey want to see my Dad's guns?"

My boy will say, "No, it's not a big deal, I shoot all the time with my Dad."

Sorry Brett, but I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one. Merely becoming a parent does not make you a moron, but if you're a moron before becoming a parent you will still be a moron as a parent. A plague of our society is people (read morons) having kids who should never have been allowed to breed! On the subject of firearms I agree with Schnugg, if you expose them early to the proper way to use and treat firearms they will respect them for the rest of their lives.

I'm not exactly making a statement of fact. Try to keep up. ;)

Life's a garden. Dig it.
I used to play war with my brothers all the time, but the key is I never tortured any animals. Thats the sign parents should be worried about. Just imagine what Brett's mom was thinking... :D

Stupid liberal...any good parent would know that there is no lug for a bayonet on the M2 .50cal machine gun. :)

Two words....Schnugg's right.
