That is what I can't remember, the context. I made the list in one window as I was browsing AW in another. I 'll see if I can find the thread.

Agree, but I believe SSC used to mean "Surface Search Coordination"

Someone?

Anyone?

Bueller?
I think it is Surface Search & Control

We used to say "triple SC" for SSSC which was Surface Search, Surveillance & Control my first tour. By my DH tour it was shortened to SSC.

Why does the Air Force place a lot of importance on having flight hours prior to trying to get a pilot slot, where as the Navy and Marines don't seem to mind an applicant having no flight time?
I'm not sure they put as much on it as you think. However, they do favor guys with PPL's when it comes to selecting pilots for Euro-Nato Joint Jet Pilot Training (ENJJPT). ENJJPT is a different animal, although we may see it "normalize" over the next few years. If you want to know more about ENJJPT, let me know.
The USAF does put student pilot selectees through a course in Pueblo, CO in the Diamond as a pre-screening. Before Pueblo, there was Hondo, but essentially the same idea: wash out the guys that will probably not make it through UPT before they start spending the big bucks on them to fly jets. When I got an AFROTC pilot slot, during my Junior year I went to the local FBO and flew until I solo'd. Uncle Sam paid for that 12 hours.
If the USAF is showing favoritism toward folks with a PPL, that seems reasonable: they've showed enough motivation to go get flight time on their own nickel. I got picked up without any flighttime, but I didn't begrudge those that had it. Good on 'em.
The Guard/Reserve units DO like to see flight time. A lot of units, especially fighter units, have had the guys they've sent to UPT wash out. That puts them behind WRT manning. So, with getting a flying position in a Guard/Reserve unit being so competitive, there's no reason not to hire guys with a few hundred hours of flight time. I just had a friends son get hired by an F-16 unit. He was flying his dad's Pitts, Casa Jet, and had logged time in some of the other exotic stuff his dad flies. Plus, he's flying Cessnas in his free time, running around the mid-west. Obviously, the Guard hiring board saw that and liked it. Can't blame them. That unit only hired two guys out of probably 80 that applied.

It's a pretty good bet that you're right. I've never seen DCM used as an acronym, mainly ASE (Aircraft Survivability Equipment). However, I have seen DECM (Defensive Electronic Counter Measures)...

Ask me about ninjas!
You're probably right, but back when the Mighty War Phrog burst into existance, the DASC (in a previous form) had radar. ...And missiles to shoot down non-compliant pilots.

Not to be a prick, but I think it's Director of Civilian Marksmanship. Part of the CMP (See, another acronym... heehee:icon_tong) that is explained here.

Yeah...that's what I meant.

It's where we obtained rifles for my high school's rifle team....way back in late 70s.

No disrespect to Petty Officer Burdeau, but that's one heck of a porn name.
