Milk Is For Babies...I Drink Beer
The big 21 is coming up and I am pondering what to get myself (as far as handguns go). I have narrowed it down to a Glock 23 (.40 S&W) and a Kimber Tactical LE (.45 ACP 1911 frame). I am going to get both but the question is which one first? The glock is reliable as **** and the 40 is a sweet load but the 1911 style on the Kimber makes me want to wear it on my hip. I am looking for a gun to hone my accuracy while providing solid personal defense. Does any body here have a glock or kimber. I already ruled out the beretta (weak, jamming 9mm), the SIG 226 (uncomfortable) and the h&k series (don't fit my hand right), so don't try to sway me :icon_smil

Have a Kimber Ultra CDP. Love it. Wouldn't trade it for anything. The most accurate handgun I've ever shot.

Highly recommended.

I'd say pick up a 22 pistol to hone your accuracy. Unless you can afford thousands of rounds of 40S&W/45ACP. I use my Walther P-22 to do crazy stuff on the range and my XD-40 for my whoop-@ss gun. I usually fire about 500 rounds of .22 and 100-200 of 40.

I own a Model 23 and I love, can't go wrong there. The XD40 is also a very nice gun.

I went to CU back in the day. Man I miss that town.

Wow, you're the first person I've ever met that doesn't like the SIG P226. But, I guess there are some wierdos out there :icon_tong

I have a Glock 23, it's a very fine pistol. Very accurate and fun to shoot. With that being said, .45ACP is inherently more accurate than .40S&W. I dont' know why, but it just is. It's a physics/magic thing. However, .40 is also buttloads cheaper than .45.

I have said it before and I’ll say it again if your going to get a Glock 23 get a Glock 23C. I say this not because i have weak wrists and am recoil sensitive but because they look cool, and are more rare. I have heard though that they can temporarily blind you at if you are shooting it in the dark so a lot of PD's won't let their officers use them anymore.

I have a Springfield 1911. Got better reviews than the Kimber. Great weapon, comperable in price

I've heard about the increased accuracy with the .45. I will probably go with the Kimber and then evetually get the glock. The price difference is just killing me ($900 vs $500). Oh well.

Yeah, I've got the Kimber from the custom shop. Don't know if the Sprigfield got better reviews that the custom models? If so I'll bet it is a joy to shoot.

Very nice to shoot. Got the front strap checkering and the adjsutable sights (didnt really need them) it was a package deal a bunch of us got from Springfield on our last float. Now if onlyI could take it on my next float.
The review I read said something about a weaker spring in the Kimber that wore out faster than the Springfiled though /i think that was after a bizilion rounds

The answer to these types of questions is ALWAYS "buy both". :)

You know, if you get some pistols, you NEED a rifle and a shotgun to keep them company. They get lonely without their bigger brothers...

Yes, I have a sickness.

DO IT! I bought 2 Christmas presents for myself a couple days ago. You can see my post about them under "MY Latest Toys" or something like that.

It depends ... what do you want the gun for? You named a few possibilities, but what is its main function for you?

Target? Home protection? Carry? Plinking? Or because you can ... ? There is no ONE perfect pistol that can do "it" all ... your choice will be a compromise of sorts. And I hate to compromise.

That type of information would help in a comparison of the pistols you have eye-balled.
