I am going to OCS in Janurary and would like to learn manuveing boards before I go to make things easier on me. I have the manuvering boards manual but I cant figure it out for the life of me. Does anyone know of a better publication for beginners to learn manuvering boards?
thanks,
-Tom

Here are some study aids for you.

Apply directly to the head with high velocity. Repeat.

If those don't work, you can try asking for advice here:

http://www.sailorbob.com/

The first two options might be less painful.

It's that plastic sheet that slide out from between the instrument panel and the ordnance panel on an AD-6. You put your box lunch on it.

Check out this brief.

Do you have actual Mobards to practice wtih? If you have no experience with Moboards, you're still going to be pretty lost. If I were you I'd wait for the training on the Navy's time.

I spent a whole semester in ROTC proving to myself that I should never be a SWO because of my complete inability to grasp the concept behind moboards.

I am in that same semester doing the same proving... it really amazes me how quickly the enlisted folk on my 2/C cruise were able to bang out a moboard. What amazed me equally as much, was a "moboard contest" was considered a very exciting time.

Harumph. Maneuvering boards ...

Greasy boards for greasy people.

Although I wanted to fly since I was 3-4 years old ... if I needed ONE "final straw" to convince me that Aviation was the way to go over Black Shoe ... this was it:

Truer words have never been spoken. Oh how I hated moboards. I have never been so lost on anything in my life...of course it probably would've helped if I could have stayed awake in class.

Not really sure what the big deal with moboards are, they're not difficult. You'll have plenty of time to learn them in OCS.

Especially since RLP seems to be a non-factor now...

Mo-Boards are situational awareness tools used in the NAVY. You will also encounter other "tools" in the fleet once you get there. Those tools may be human in apprearance- you would be wise to avoid them.
