Let me clarify... we only had 1 CHOP assigned to the sub at a given time...

Ya, got it; most small boys only have 3. I was just sayin...

Moboards seem similar to what's done with an E6B

Huh??

OP: Ya, just wait. If you're going SWO, you'll get plenty of training on Moboards at SWOS and on your ship. If not, then you'll never need to use one again. Either way, not much is gained by learning them before OCS.

Small boys have a Supply Officer (DH type) and an Ensign/JG who is the Assistant SUPPO.

Only the ASS-O will stand bridge watch, and if the command cares about its JOs, ASS-O's bridge time should be subordinate to SWO bridge time.

You don't have to qualify OOD Underway to get the SWSCO pin.

And like fc2 said, moboards are more than just winds.
If a target is too close, the fancy automated radar aids will not work, and you will have to do moboards. If weather is bad and radar can't pick small fishing boats up, moboards are the only way to know wtf they're doing.
Divisional Tactics also requires moboards.

So what's the answer??

Go into Naval Aviation wherein you do a "maneuvering board" problem -- without the board -- and you do it @ 35O KIAS
.

We call it a rendezvous. :D

Game over.

Actually ... I was trying to illuminate for the unwashed. Give 'em somethin', some terms to work with .... and at the same time smash the greasy boards which are used by greasy people ... and Black Shoes. :)

Actually #2 ..."WE" call it whatever the hell we want ... whether it be RDVS, join-up, get-aboard, follow-me, "whoops", or "real nice, Sport" (always broadcast on the frequency for a gross overshoot/overrun) ... or something else ... or whatever ... :D
