March 2017 IWC OCS Board Thread

You don't even know if you made it through the board portion yet?

Nope. I emailed my recruiter last week and he said he hasn't heard anything yet. I emailed him again this morning as he should have gotten word by now, so I'm hoping he has news for me. It honestly hasn't been easy trying to do this whole process whilst in two different countries/time zones. He's the only officer recruiter for the whole Asia Pacific region, so it's sometimes hard to communicate efficiently.

Ahoy. Can someone link a intel board schedule for this year. I am aiming for June Board, and I can't seem to find where I found the schedule that shows NLT dates for submissions and convene dates when I was doing this last year. Good luck folks, thanks.

Does anyone have quota information for this board? I'm a first time OCS Oceano applicant (not selected), 6th officer package total, 3 sta-21, 2 ldo. A swo here on my ship who did some time at OCS Admin while he was hurt told me they selected 1 per year. This was apparently in 2015. Seems incorrect but am wondering what the actual # is. Thanks.

More than likely true. Seems like many OCEANOs come from USNA or LAT Transfer.

about a year or year and a half ago they took 3, but the standard is usually 1 or 0, just not much need

also you should have a tech degree, and the average GPA for the past several years was 3.6-3.9 and unfortunately the past year or so none that I can tell have come from the enlisted ranks.

Just an update and hopefully useful who plans to apply for OCS and have parents that are naturalized citizens:

Basically, the processor needed a written statement from my parents - which I've already stated were US citizens - stating they'll give up their foreign nationality (they are Korean). They also needed one from me saying I would give up my foreign nationality, which is nonsense as I'm a born and raised American. Amidst the confusion, they just needed my parents stating they have renounced their foreign nationalities. I don't know if this is the usual as my recruiter was bewildered that they were asking for such a thing as he never had this request before. Anyway, we handed everything in on time but for some reason, the processors decided to submit my application package for the June board without notifying me or my recruiter. So, we've basically been waiting for a result that was never going to come. I guess I'll just chalk this up to a misunderstanding and just how the military works sometimes. Would like to especially thank ISDaniel for taking note and actually helping me out or else I'd still be twiddling my thumbs. Or, I guess I still am cause now I have to wait until the end of June for my results.

Congrats to all that made it!

It doesn't sound too farfetched. We do citizen denouncing for people all the time in order for them to have SECRET access. Even though they probably wont ever have actual access to that information, it's still a navy requirement. Since you'll be required to have TS access it doesn't sound unreasonable that they would ask for that information. That's not to say that you couldn't get your clearance if your parents were dual citizens, but it definitely doesn't look favorable on you during your investigation process and it can stall you for a long period of time.

He was bewildered that they asked me to write a statement saying I will renounce my citizenship when he told them I never had dual. I already have (active) clearance because I worked for the government that involved before. I never had foreign nationality before, only US, so was confused why they were asking me to write a statement to give up my foreign nationality when I already told them I never had dual. I understand for my parents. But that's not what I'm really, how you say, annoyed about. It's just that they didn't even notify me or my recruiter that they had to submit for June as I live abroad and trying to plan my timeline so I can resign from my job here and move back to the States. Being a professor, time is kind of sensitive due to terms. But I told him these things happen. I just hope it's really submitted this time, that's all :)

Recruiters go off the Nationality Guidelines. I know of one country, Korea for example, where the parents are both born there and the applicant is born here in the US. In the guidelines, the applicant is considered a dual citizen, even though they were both in the US.
