With a background of EO and Cyber?
Yes, it was what my recruiter recommended to me.

Edit: To add some additional context, i was originally submitting a package for SWO but i currently have 11 years TIS and we found out when i submitted my package that there was a TIS ceiling. I do have some maintenance background/experience having spent two years working on the E-8C JSTARS program but then i cross-trained. My recruiter reviewed jobs with me and suggested AMDO.

What lol? I mean I know technically you can. All you need is a undergraduate to apply for Navy OCS. However, usually the degree and work experience lines up with the officer program your looking into doing.

You can get a waiver for TIS, you can also look up the program authorizations on my navy hr. I don’t know if I saw anything for SWO and TIS, but if you have 11 years TIS, then did you require a waiver for AMDO?

I understand, but your recruiter should of also looked into the Program Requirement. I don't remember the TIS for SWO but 11 years seems like you should be good. You can also put in a waiver, the Navy is hurting for SWOs currently.

I was not informed i would need a waiver for AMDO but my recruiter filled one out for SWO after the fact and may have just used that for the AMDO submission.

Ya'll have provided some good feedback and insights. Unfortunately, i no longer have a recruiter as he went back to his old job to bounce these questions/concerns off of. There should be a new one in place in the coming weeks.

Well we can answer some questions. Part of the process is getting to know the program and what it entails. I can tell you, I have done 4 interviews with Senior AMDOS, that have asked me some good questions and gave me golden nuggets.

The process sounds like it is a bit different for you because you’re crossing over from another branch. I will say there’s a lot of info in the program authorization Gizmo linked over in MyNavyHR and on this site.

There are also some really knowledgeable individuals that have contributed in this thread so I would take a crack at sending them a PM with questions.

You can also call, email, or show up in person to another OR, if it is feasible.

The premise of OCS is that a person doesn't need experience in the field they are applying for, USN AD are looked at different while civilian are looked at based on their educational background.

There have been times when civilians were preferred over AD due to prior enlisted reaching retirement and leaving, then also times when AD were preferred due to their experience, there was also a time when flight school drops were being funneled to AMDO often.

Knowing how the boards have been recently I would agree with you as why would he submit him for AMDO right now it looks like those who are AD with experience in maintenance are preferred.

My guess is the OR looked at what he would meet given the TIS and suggested one that fit.
That what I was thinking, Cyber would be a better fit or Admin Officer with the HRM degree.
CW likes to pick people with STEM majors, it is why they say they prefer candidates who have Calculus and Physics classes done, an Admin Officer isn't something you can get into via OCS.

They are having retention issues not recruiting issues, there are JO's sitting on ships with not much to do or just waiting their turn to lead a division. The funny thing is they have for years complained about retention yet they will tell SWO's they don't need them to stay or will FOS out SWO's.

This whole not a recruiting but retention is starting to seem like an issues across the board. From what I've heard from AD SWOs is that they need people due to people not staying in. Which points to the retention issue at hand. I agree OCS is different, but I remember my time on USN AD and within Aviation, they picked the guys from AD with the experience more often then those without it. As well that's the issue, his OR looked at the TIS and rolled the dice. I'm not counting him out, but pushing his package up last minute off seems half done. It would be nice if he had a list of the boards package due dates so he'll know well in advance to cutoffs.
