The movie "Black Hawk Down" is definitely a keeper. The movie, about Rangers and Delta Forces fighting in Africa, has non-stop action, and a few comedic spots.
If you are wondering about realism, only a special forces veteran could speculate on the accuracy of the military life and procedures portrayed in here; but, on the other hand, the movie is based on an actual event--a specific day in the life of American troops stationed in Somalia in the early 90's.
The included "making the movie" section of the DVD is a great complement to this flick. History buffs would be well-advised to pick up a copy, if only because the US Government helped out by providing the actual helicopters, complete with crews. As another major point of realism, the actors were required to attend real government boot camps for months before shooting the flick! These 'behind the scenes' clips touch on that and also shows how the actors were prepared for each scene by actual military veterans.
Sadly, I must warn the readers that on more than one occasion, "Black Hawk Down" feels long, tedious and slightly repetitive--but this could have been done on purpose by the directors to get the "gravity of the event" across to the viewers. The movie did, however, win three Emmy's (two of which were for the audio.)
In parallel to that last positive bit is the opinion of this viewer. In the total of it all, "Black Hawk Down" is a great motivational burst of inspiration for even a non-military accustomed movie fan! ~Int
