why dont u call base info? i dont know if they allow pre-ocs types to access the sims there. i remember as a mid we couldnt fly the sims since the pilots had priority. but it never hurts to ask.

Base info is going to give you the deer in the headlights look. Your best bet is to hook up with someone in a local squadron.

not sure if your intention is to fly the sim, but my experience w/ the sims at NAS Lemoore was:

1) You need a secret or interim-secret clearance to go in by yourself (not sure if the same is true for going in w/ an escort)
2) You would be scheduled on a time-permitting basis
3) They are pretty interesting and quite realistic (other than graphics)....and the folks who run the programs are pretty knowledgeable, helpful and are more than happy to show you a good time

That said, you would almost certainly need to have some sort of formal connection to a base command to get scheduled (whether it be a guest of a squadron, air wing, or MATSG). Good luck!

Thx for the responses guys.
Main reason for this is because I want to try and get a job there:D. I can't think of a cooler civilian (non-flying) job than that:).

Maybe you should try these Sim's in San Diego first - they are usually available, no clearance needed, they are impressive, and you don't have to know anyone.....

thx Catmando. I work at a similar establishment in SOCAL that uses the same software. I think they have a really cool set up inside the Midway, but man are the flight models horked out  .

FYI, most of the sim operators in my community are retired platform guys with experience in that aircraft. Your chances might be limited in that respect.

Combating TIP training AGAIN?!
I had a great time at the Prowler sim. My XO just said something like "hey skeds could you get the Petty Officer and I in for Friday at 3:00". It was awesome; we flew under Deception Pass bridge (after I jettisoned the stores). What blew my mind was when the XO saved my trap with his left hand sitting in Ecmo 1! Nuts!

ya, that makes sense. But some members of the Navy League council I'm in got to fly the 18 sim- WITHOUT ME!!:icon_rage -at miramar and they said the operator was some old lady that looked like she didnt even enjoy her job. I doubt she has time in a hornet:D. So I guess thats where the possibility of employment struck me.

thanks for the info guys.

Got a chance to fly the sims down there once.........we were doing a brief for SEAD stuff out on San Clemente there in Miramar, and the FAC's, the AO, and a few of my TACP teammates went down there a flew for a while. At the time, I had some flying time in Cessna's, so going from that to the 18 (sim) was a shock. Took me a while to figure how to unlock and pull the gear up. Also the throttle locks............guess that is why I could not get the blowers lit...............But, all in all it was a great experience.

So was Clemente, barring the freakin' psycho cactus balls that stick to everything..........the ****ter pilots must have loved watching us down there get slammed with those naughty little projectiles.
