This might be the right place to put this but there are other threads that have Pensacola area stuff here so...

Anyone keeping track on this? Thought it might be interesting.

They told us to "be prepared" to evac on a moments notice...no final word yet...

Update: They are now reporting that it will probably be a Cat 3 when it makes landfull.

We (SNFOs) just got the word to evac. The aircraft are leaving tomorrow. There is going to be a decision made about evacuating the entire base later this afternoon. Fezz, I'd hold off on coming down if I were you since you don't have to report until Friday.

Thanks Red. Well, i need to be in pcola before wed. I just hope it doesnt get too bad that i arrive in florida and see more cars leaving pcola than going into. If they evac NASP, how does that work with me and the other ppl reporting on Fri?

I was here for dennis and if the hurricane hits us on monday we'll be back at work long before friday. I hope this one is as tame as dennis and not mean like ivan but either way it's the way of things in fabulous pensacola

COMPLETELY different story up here in Whiting Pines in Milton for Dennis. Dennis wasn't tame here. It spawned multiple tornadoes and took out a buttload of trees.

I was the SDO for VT-4 today so I'll pass the real word here to give y'all a good idea of what's up. TRAWING-6 (VT-4, VT-10, & VT-86) are flying their aircraft out tomorrow morning. TRAWING-6 is NOT a mandatory evac, however; it is STRONGLY recommended that you leave just in case. As for return times, etc...for VT-4 Tuesday will be the return day and you should expect to be back at work on Wednesday (although the definition of 'work' is sketchy). So there, you have it...back by Wednesday unless things get crazy and then it'll be longer. There are no plans to return anyone back prior to Wednesday as ALL academics are cancelled for Monday and Tuesday and the planes won't be back to resume flight ops until late Tuesday at the earliest. The CDO's for VT-10 and VT-4 will be on-deck tomorrow until the planes arrive off-site and then they will be released as the CDO shack at the off-site location stands up. Additionally, the base issued this statement this afternoon:

http://www.co.escambia.fl.us/documents/NASP019-05.pdf

Hope this gives all the NAS P-cola guys a better, and more official, view of what is occurring/what to expect.

Thanks for the link...and if I may a question...do you know anything about API classes for Monday? What they are doing with that? You might not have any word but thought I would try.

Check this periodically:

https://www.netc.navy.mil/index.asp

I won't say for sure, but the NAS CO has set in motion the evac for tomorrow so things will prob be shut down Monday. Again, I speak in no formal capacity, but that is based on what I heard today on duty and what I am gleaning from the press release. Hope this helps.

Roger that, thanks for the link...

22:26 - just checked the projected path for the storm and it looks to be passing well west of Pcola...New Orleans area with Mobile being the farthest east projected landfall...
