Head in the clouds
when I'm running I listen to something with a strong beat and laid back (Radiohead, Anberlin). When I'm lifting I listen to somthing that will scream at me when I'm punching out those last few reps (The Used, Everytime I Die, Killswitch Engage).

Or on a more positive note:

David Crowder Band
Mercy Me
Third Day
Sonicflood
Jars of Clay

Like xj, skim, and christophurrr said, it's all about what pumps you up. Running is about keeping your pace, so pick a song with a good beat to keep your rhythm. You can also always get the "Run to the cadence of [fill in service]"!:tongue2_1

So based on this thread... Naval aviators / NFOs and those who aspire to be them have generally awesome taste in music

I'm into fast rock, but not hard rock. I like to be inspired too. Fast hip-hop is good too. And sometimes Emo can really get me going. And punk is good too.

Ex:

OkGo - Here It Goes Again, Get Over It
The Bravery - Believe
Matchbook Romance - Monsters
The Mars Volta - Wax Simulacra
The Fall of Troy - F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X., Act One Scene One, I Got This Symphony Goin'
Saul Williams - List of Demands
Sum 41 - The Hell Song
System of a Down - B.Y.O.B., Sugar
Taking Back Sunday - Spin

Green Day - St. Jimmy
Beastie Boys - Sabotage
Jimmy Eat World - Pain
Avenged Sevenfold - Bat Country
3Oh!3 - Rich Man
Atreyu - Ex's and Oh's

That's my playlist. I've never worked out past 77 minutes so I've never needed to expand on it.

Avenged Sevenfold
Metallica
Korn (Old Korn...the new shit is a little slow)
Any Slipknot
Tool on a long slow distance day

and looking to work As I Lay Dying into the rotation...

And if you are running a 5K race, you absolutely must start out with Master of Puppets... by mile 2 you will be so far ahead it won't matter if you have to walk a little...
