MUST READ for all SNA applicants - new selection rules

This is a public service announcement to anyone applying for SNA.

Direct from the horse's (recruiter's) mouth. Apparently, there's been a major change in the way the aviation board will review applications. Whereas in the past the board would review all applications (be it as few as 10 or as many as 200), beginning in FY09 they are imposing a monthly quota which will limit the number of packages reviewed by a given month's board to a predetermined number (say, for the sake of argument no more than 50). The 51st applicant will be bumped to the following month and so on and so forth.

What does this mean for you? Get your package in ASAP so you avoid getting stuck at the end of what I imagine will become a very long list. If this is a repost, I apologize but I couldn't find anything under Search. Hope this helps someone.

Is it really just going to be first come first served? This would make more sense if it were based on a quantitative score of some kind (grades, PFA, etc.).

First come first serve. When the quota is filled, everyone else gets rolled to the top of the following months pile of applications.

Quick!!!!!!!!!!!! Rumors spreading like wildfire!!!!!!!!!! Come read for yourself and then realize that there really isn't any change on the applicants end!

It's actually a huge change. Instead of reading all applications they will only look at a limited number applications for pilot slots. Feel free to call my recruiter yourself 215-697-7100.

I've heard the same from my recruiter. I can't say that I blame them, why sort through 200 applications and punish yourself instead of reading 50 and pushing the other 50 to a later month because they put their applications in late. I'm kinda in that boat right now. My package was sent off the last week of August for the September boards, September boards are suppose to be packed full so I might get rolled to October because my package may have arrived too late. Not that big of a change, just get your crap together and send your package in early and you won't have to worry, otherwise be prepared to to wait an extra month. Now if they were only going to pick 3 SNA applicants at each board, that would be a big change in selection rules.

So instead of filling it out and sending it in as soon as you can, you are going to do what different?

I'm with Matt on this one. It's not like a credit card bill where it needs to be there by a specific date or you get penalties like crazy. You put in your application when it's done and they look at it when they can. It's out of your hands by that point. Hurry up and wait....get used to it.

Personally, I won't do anything differently because my package is already in, but it has big implications for guys applying a few months down the road. Let's play with some numbers.

Old Policy

September - 100 applications sent, 100 read
October - 120 applications sent, 120 read
November - 80 applications sent, 80 read
etc, etc

New Policy (80 per month quota)

September - 100 applications sent, 80 read, 20 go to October
October - 120 applications sent, 20 from SEP plus 60 from OCT read, 60 go to November
November - 100 applications sent, 60 from OCT read plus 20 from NOV, 80 go to December

If you apply in December you won't be seen until January, period.

I just wanted to make guys aware of the new policy. Those are hypothetical numbers. It might be worse in real life. You could apply in December and end up not having your application reviewed until March!

Is this really any different? When I applied four years ago I'm pretty sure I waited a month or two for my package to be reviewed.
