MUST READ for all SNA applicants - new selection rules

TopShot

BDCP SNA
Appreciated. I don't take my ASTB until October so I guess I'm a tad bit late. Fortunately, I wont have several months of applicants piled up ahead of me.

i wonder if this has anything to do with the navy's current overcrowding of junior officers ... are they selecting fewer people? ie: they look at fewer applications thus fewer highly qualified get selected?

or are they they filling up all the slots available even with lesser qualified people simply to fill the quota?

Scott,

It would seem that being restricting the pool of applicants they would actually diminish the number of highly qualified applicants. If they are worried about overcrowding, the best thing to do would be to review as many applications as are submitted but select fewer.

x2. They're not weeding people out before the boards so that the board only sees good apps, but rather just limiting the total number that the board will see.
Wishful thinking, but maybe they'll have more frequent boards now...

what i'm wondering is ...

restrict number of applicants per month to lets say 50

so maybe 70 people send in their packages, only the first 50 are seen this particular month.

board meets and has lets say 20 slots to fill. in this round of 50, there are not 20 highly qualified individuals, or at least not as highly qualified as if they had looked at all 70 for this month.

so are they going to select 20 regardless to fill their quota? this would seem to allow under qualified people into the program, people who wouldn't have been selected had the whole group of 70 been looked at.

or are they only selecting the ones they think are the best? ie: only picking 10 because there were not 10 more highly qualified to fill the quota and the 20 people that got bumped will be looked at next month.

did i make sense? i hope they're using option 2 however i have a feeling they'll be using option 1 (letting lesser qualified into the program), which would indeed increase the attrition rate like they've been looking to do.

*all of the numbers used above are total BS, i pulled them out of my ass and should only be treated as an example.

I was thinking something along those lines. Who really knows the logic behind it, but if they are looking to gather up future-attrites then they have found an excellent way to fill other communities that need personnel unless they are planning on canning those folks.

Excuse my ignorance, I'm new to the board and my recruiter hasn't been very forthcoming with information, do the new rules refer to applicants getting pro recommended or to those trying to get their final select?

As for the recruiter, just keep in mind that he's got a tough job and likely has more important tasks than getting pilots.

Thanks for the info.

I realize the recruiter has a lot to do, thats why I try not to bother him. I wasn't trying to belittle him, just trying to explain why I didn't already have the answer to my question.

The recruiters job is to get you to join the Navy. With that being said make him do his job and answer anything you are unsure about or need answers to. There are good and bad recruiters out there so don't just assume you are not getting answers because he is "busy."

Also, for everyone fretting about rushing your applications to the board it boils down to the following: Changing how they review applications does not change how many pilots the navy will need. Needs of the Navy is the name of the game. Just get your applications in and you probably won't notice anything different.

50 applicants enter a pool for the review board a month. OK, I read on here that If I apply for BDCP my application only gets looked at along with other BDCP applicants. So lets say the initial 50 is booked for OCS applicants, will they have another 50 or so for BDCP applicants? Or does my package get reviewed with the top 50 applying for that month and thats it?
