They can't replace the Huey w/ the MV-22 because the Huey is too good looking of a helicopter.

The 46 on the other hand...;)

The Yankee looks like it will be pretty badass, I am happy the Huey is getting some luvin, esp. in the engine department, it needs it. Used to watch them race through the valleys to try and get enough airspeed to clear the hills outside MCAS Camp Pen.

Here's one for those of you in the know: What's the EP for "fails to tilt out of cruise configuration," or whatever you guys call it? You guys have a rotor jettison handle for that one and deadstick it in, or what? ;)

53 mafia checking-in.

Our systems are similar to the -60's. Triple hydraulic, dual AFCS (Automated Flight Control System), and dual flight control systems.
Auto a -53? Seriously, we have THREE engines. But there has been a documented case of a -53 doing a full auto (fuel system malfunction), and yes the aircrew survived.
Also, sure you can fly to the objective area at 250 kts, and outrun everything. But coming into the zone you are still coming in like a big slow helo, and are just as vulnerable as the rest of us.

I shall stand corrected on the autorotational capabilities of the 53. I just accepted as gospel the conventional wisdom passed down to me.

However, though a V-22 becomes a slow helo just over the trees, it is much harder to hit coming in, decelerating from 220 to 0 inside a 3 mile distance. Conversely, accelerating like a bat out of hell on the way out helps a lot, too.
