Naval Aviator -> Special Forces

it was brought up earlier in the thread that Harm (from JAG) jumped in between flying and the courtroom.

This is partially true. He actually started as a SEAL, became a pilot, went JAG, then back to aviation, and then finally back to the courtroom.

You could also be a SWO/astronaut, for all it matters. Their technical degrees and masters from MIT probably helped a bit.

Shep never forgot his roots as a SEAL. Before retiring as an O-6, "Shep" went back to NSW community to serve under then Rear Admiral Olson at SPECWARCOM. No surprise that now Admiral Olson asked him to be his Science & Technology Advisor at SOCOM.

As to his degree getting him into NASA, he is way smarter than any sheepskin. Just 5 minutes with him is like getting a physics lecture from a professor that you like. He is good people, a great American and one of select few Astronauts awarded the Congressional Space Medal of Honor. He wasn't just an Astronaut, he was one of the ground-breaking Astronauts who got the International Space Station into space and subsequently was its first commander.

Little known fact: Shep wanted to be a Naval Aviator, but had an eyesight issue so he became a SEAL instead. His grandfather flew with Army in WWI and his dad flew with Navy in WWII. He owns a beautiful vintage Great Lakes biplane and delights in showing aviators his acro skills (can't seem to locate my pictures I took of it when he flew it to Pax for a visit).

Assuming for a moment that the OP was asking a serious question, I'll offer this - if you're interested in flying and spending some time on the ground you won't be disappointed by going Marine air. I loved the time I spent in the Harrier fleet, but - no shitter - the best tour I had was my AirO/FAC tour with 3/6 in OEF (I've never been known to shotgun cool aid either).

To be clear though, as Phrog pointed out, you're not there to command grunts or a team. You're there to provide aviation knowledge and expertise and then coordinate and control the air support they need. In doing so you'll get all the convoys, heat rash, and MREs you can handle.

...and hopefully, you "how do I get on the SEAL - Fighter Pilot - Recon Marine - Astronaut career my friend totally knows all about?" guys will notice that those who've managed something even remotely like that, were high-order genius triathletes and still had to work their asses off. Totally rocking HALO 3 doesn't count.

It can be done.

Crowbar is going to be a flight surgeon (after his Blue Angels stint is over), and E5B is entering the Chaplain syllabus (he's in the last months of his "G14-Classified" CIA tour).
