I agree, this is a terrible idea.
As a current CNATRA guy, I wholeheartedly disagree. After flying with the new birds for a few weeks now, there’s not really a reduction in visibility. Different for sure, but nothing even close to affecting safety of flight. A lot of people are really overblowing how visible the orange/white paint scheme was, and assuming the blue paint is categorically worse.

During the briefs about the new paint last year, it was stated that the primary reason for the new paint for all platforms was morale, with specific emphasis on motivating TACAIR JOs to come back and fly the T-45, since apparently the pointy nose world looks down on the idea of flying the “clown jet”, and wanted it to look more tactical.

Now that "logic" I could see happening.

Maybe this is a generational issue. I remember having very high morale the first time I climbed up the side of a white and orange (W-O) T-28 at VT-6. And again with the W-O TH-57 and W-O TH-1. It flew, I was getting paid, and it beat being a grunt. The paint scheme was not even on my mental radar. I was just happy to be flying.

Although the linked article deals with colors and their visibility against sky blue, more in the art or paint world, it is interesting what colors are stated as contrasting or not.
