Navy Pilots "Piece" Standard issue or Personal Gun

I totally understand now. I didn't realize that it was that big of a hassle of using your personal pistol. It makes sense too for safety reasons. Thanks for the opinions. My first gun which I still own is a EA Witness 9/.40 convertible (laugh all you want). I got it for $300 at a Gun show brand new, and it was my first pistol I bought. If it was possible to carry my own pistol while flying, I surely would have to buy a more expensive/reliable gun like the Sig's that you guys are talking about. I definately plan on adding to the collection

Yeah I wouldn't want to use a non-issue firearm. For a multitude of reasons, but one being treatment of said firearm.

D_mac05: I have a P226 like I said earlier. Absolute amazing pistol. I also recently picked up a Glock 23. I used to HATE Glock. Now, I'm completely in love. Check them out, they aren't for everyone, but they may grow on you like they did with me. However, DEFINITELY get a SIG if you like them

We started packing a couple extra M-16s in the back of our helos, along with a box of extra 9mm and 5.56mm while we were in Kosovo a while back. As far as a carry weapon, though, I think the Beretta works just fine.

You can take any weapon on cruise you want... just don't get caught.
We also fly with the Sig but I think we have the 226, our AWs take M-16s and have egress kits for our M240s. Lot of small Cal. power.

Only reason I see getting your own is to practice with it on your own time.
And to take on cruise...

Just so you know, you need to use issued ammo if you bring your own weapon. Anything else is a violation of the Geneva Convention and if you are caught by the bad guys, you loose your status as a lawful combatant.

I had an instructor in primary who took his own weapon to Afghanistan. He was asked why he had both the issued 9mm and his .45 he just rationalized that he didn't have enough time to send his pistol to the armorers and wasn't asked again.

Well, see a USP is a respectable, practical, and quality firearm. A Desert Eagle is a useless brick.

My favorite sport is crushing Counter-Strike retards. For some reason, they think playing a non-realistic video game gives them superior knowledge. Not in my house! MUAHAHHAHAHAH!

Quick sea story. We were doing Afghanistan missions right after Sept 11. We got issued the standard Beretta 9, with only 2 mags and 10 rounds (5 in each). So the next deploment comes around and we're doing Enduring Freedom Phillipines and we get 3 mags with 15 in each. 45 bullets in a low threat environment vs. 10 in a high one. I love it.
