This just popped on NetFlix. USS Indianapolis. If I remember correctly, the Navy hung the captain of the ship out to dry and was not corrected for many years.
This was in our local paper today. Seems as though we have a movie star amongst us farmers.

Watching this now - for those of us who came into the military during the Cold War, we are thankful it never came to this. If you just want to watch the Navy part as it escorts the Reforger convoys across the North Atlantic, that is at about the 45:00 mark. Lot of F-14's providing fleet defense.

A frightening mockumentary made in a parallel world in which the popular uprisings against the communist regimes in Eastern Europe in 1989 lead to a very different outcome. Soviet President Gorbachev visits East Germany, promoting Perestroika and Glasnost, which leads to mass demonstrations against the hardline East German government. A successful military coup then takes place in the Soviet Union which installs a fanatical communist General in the Kremlin and sweeps away all of Gorbachev’s reforms.

good one, watched it a while back. Pretty believable, probably since there were a number of crises in the era being depicted that could have had the same result had they gone sideways.......same might be said for a couple in the last few years

Meanwhile, on a much lighter note is the sitcom "Last Man Standing", recently cancelled by ABC despite being its 2nd ranked comedy. If you liked Tim Allen in the 1990's "Home Improvement", you will find this funny.

Good doc, and the book is excellent too. Comprehensive but still a good read and accessible to the layman.
Just caught "Deepwater Horizon". Really brought back memories of my years flying the rigs - seemed to be pretty accurate as well. In the movie, the base pictured was Galliano and the helicopters were from Bristow - in real life, PHI flew for BP out of Fourchon. Other than that, solid and entertaining movie.
Caught this on HBO. Excellent. A rare reminder of the things that unite us.
