I don't think it's a big deal. These TBS/OCS SNA's are just worried that this will take their "JET SLOT".

That's the only thing that concerns me. I haven't heard yet (except some speculation from phrogdriver I think) but on selection day, if the squid takes the transfer for the opportunity to go Hornets, does he get the hornet slot offered on that day or just a slot in general? It would be upsetting if he got the only slot available for that selection and forced a Marine to go Prowlers or Harriers.

That was pretty good..... :) Seriously, this kind of thing seems to happen about every 10 years so although it is unusual, its not unprecedented.

Whether you fly Navy or Marines and transfer you have to earn your jet slot, no easy around the process. The Marines are not going to accept an average Navy student in flight school and offer him/her a jet slot. You will have to do extremely well in flight school for the opportunity to fly a jet in the Marines. By the way, you Navy guys are sure quick to jump ship when you hear jet slot. Where is the loyalty?

I've got a good question. How can the Navy, the most forward deployable force next to the Marines, the most powerful naval force in history, screw up personnel SOOOOO bad? Gotta love it.

Naw, the Hornet reeks with squid anyway. What Marine would want to fly that thing? Hopefully I can get my NSS above the Harrier cut-off.

Seriously though, I don’t understand the carrot on the stick. In another year, the choice on the Navy selection card will be the “hornet” or the “growler.” What is the appeal of guaranteeing something that is pretty much already guaranteed? If the choice was wait 4 months in MS, or party it up for 6 months in Quantico, then that doesn’t make sense either. Who knows, maybe RB is going to come back in with another bomb shell.

no one down here in Kingsville has taken it, can't speak for Meridian

I got my Navy jet slot and I'm keeping it, thank you very much, now in other news

Big Worm, the F-18 incentive is not having to worry about going Marine, then getting jammed with Scariers, not just getting F-18s.

Because DoD budgets from year to year, but the pipeline from OCS to wings takes about 4 years. Kinda like a freight train - you can step on the brakes but it still takes a half a mile to stop.
