With a very young son taking over in the North Korea this is a pretty convenient way for the Kim family to ensure that lil' Kim takes his proper place as the head of the world's most spectacularly retarded country.
Fixed it for you

Yep they sent a 31 man commando team to assassinate Korea's president in 1967 or thereabouts.
Well the removal of a neighboring hostile force did not secure our withdrawal from Germany. I don't think we'll pull out of South Korea until we can no longer afford to be there.Fastest way to get the US out of Korea is to get rid of the threat that keeps us there. If China really has the long-term in mind, which they are famous for, maybe they will stop being obstinate and clear the way for a non-loony government in NK.
+ whatever ... BZ, MC ... it's nice to see that someone has a grasp (AND MEMORY!!!) on the history of the Korean Peninsula in 'modern times' ......But lets connect the dots....
.... I guess you had to live through it to 'know it' ... ROK in Vietnam, Banner, Blue House, Pueblo, Pueblo again, Hodges, Tet ...
Yeah, because that's just what we needed; Dresden with nukes. What's a few glowing holes here and there if we win?I often wonder how differently the world would have turned out if MacArthur was allowed to nuke the little bastards on both sides of the Yalu when he had the chance.

And get us involved in n all-out shooting war with the PRC and the USSR? Remember, by then the Soviets had set off their first nuke so it may not have been a one way nuke-fest......
Even more recent instances of North Korean attacks include the bombing of a South Korean delegation in Rangoon, Burma in 1983 and the bombing of KAL Flight 858 in 1987. Attempted infiltrations into South Korea and Japan were exposed by the grounding of a submarine in 1996, the entanglement of another in a fishing net in 1998 along with two vessels caught off the Japanese coast in 1999 and another sunk in 2001.
A pretty good list of North Korean 'provocations' up 'til 2003 can be found in this paper.
China and Russia were already well on the course to their split; after Uncle Jo passed on, Kruschev only accelerated the schizm between Asian Commies and the Russkies. Whether the Russians would have come to the rescue of their Chinese friends is up for debate.
After all, allowing the regime to stand vice kicking their teeth in when we had them on the ropes has really worked out well for us in the 60 years since then, right?
