OCS 27JAN 25 IWC BOARD

Ray56Ak

Cryptologic Warfare Applicant | OCS Aug 24
I heard the good news from my recruiter today! I got my first pick, Cryptologic Warfare, and I’m shipping out on August 24, 2025! I submitted my package on November 24, 2024, with my top three choices: 1. Cryptologic Warfare, 2. Information Professional, and 3. Maritime. I have a B.S. in Information Technology with a 3.7 GPA and scored a 47 on the OAR on my second attempt. My plan was to retake the OAR for a higher score if I got rejected, but everything worked out. I’m ecstatic and ready to start this new chapter of my life.

Congratulations! As you’re embarking on this new journey, here’s hoping it’s a sign that the results will be available for the rest of us.

Congratulations to everyone! Unfortunately, I will have to be the one to break this chain of positive news. My recruiter called and I didn't make it for either CW or IP :(. It's a bummer but I'm going to keep my chin up and apply for the May/June IWC board as well as for Intel (if they don't cancel it).

My recruiter and I aren't sure if there is anything to improve my package at this point since I've recently graduated with my MA in December 2024. It's likely that my background made me less competitive compared to my peers. Would appreciate any advice moving forward.

Assuming you qualify, suggest other OCS programs which are not as competitive as IWC.

Didn't get selected for Oceano or CWO sadly.
BS: Chemistry
GPA: 3.66
OAR: 60
No waivers
My recruiter suggested applying for immediate select for CWO since he says I meet all the requirements so that's what I'm doing next.

My experience, I knew I had a low OAR score of 47, but I took my shot. Advice from retired military personnel in my family was to list all my leadership qualities. I had opportunities to work in the tech field related to my degree, and I demonstrated progress from Tier 1 help desk support to network technician to team lead. I led by example by reviewing resumes, hiring people, teaching courses, creating test modules, serving as manager on duty to oversee my employees, and conducting performance reviews. Don’t hesitate to rephrase your experience to highlight your mentorship skills like, if you taught a new coworker the ways of a job, be sure to mention that you provided guidance of your corporation. Just think of anything. I even included accomplishments from high school, such as co-founding the gaming club, managing the club for tournaments, and taking on leadership roles during group work in college anything to make myself stand out that I have leadership.
